With the average (at best) play that Liverpool is displaying can we stop the Flames comparisons?

Because at this point the seasons are looking way too close which means flirting with decency but really both teams being not close to good enough.

I dont know, their league play has been pretty good, but their Europa League play is insanely bad.

Comolli says Torres exit 'a relief' :

Quote:
"When you have someone who doesn't want to be here and you swap him for people who want to be here the atmosphere changes.

"It's like there is a bright new sky with no cloud over our head from the day that happened. So it's been only positive. That was really a relief for those reasons.''

Liverpool owner John W Henry also alluded to Torres' exit being beneficial for the club earlier this week, saying: "It's all very positive. Someone was saying that people weren't happy here, but I think since that person left, people are happier."
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...pirits?cc=5901

I can understand that. Torres is still, in my opinion, one of the best strikers in the world when hes in form, but having a guy like that and you're tip-toeing around him trying to keep him happy all the time isnt always worth it and gets tiring and drags morale down.

And thats really all you can do, let him go and replace him.

I wouldn't mind letting go of a Torres every transfer window if it funds another Suarez. I seriously can't stop talking about how good that guy is!!! The shot for the goal in the match on Sunday was just magic. Torres in his top form is Torres in top form, but we haven't honestly seen that in a long time (and he's being outscored by 2 goals at Chel$ki by the CENTRAL DEFENDER who cost half what he did). Suarez is also that extra bit younger. If it worked like North American sports over there, I'd make that trade. Then when you factor in the money to boot, it's a complete no-brainer.

Suarez has been quite the revelation. Yeah Kuyt got the hat trick, but Suarez single-handedly dismantled United and allowed Kuyt to just tap those three home.

Not to mention, we havent even seen the best of Andy Carroll yet!

It worked out really well for Liverpool seeing as how Torres obviously wanted out.

Now, if the Reds can pass Chelski in the standings at the end that would be sweet.

Rick parry speaks. And really, really shouldnt.

Quote:
However, Parry, who is clearly keen to promote his own stewardship, says Gillett and Hicks were not all bad: "Don't forget and certainly until I left - which was 2009 [February] - we were second in the League. The business plan was a net spend of £20million on players. And they'd over delivered on that. They took us pretty close to winning the Premier League in 2008-2009, within four points of Manchester United with a huge points total [86].

Ugh, Carra says they 'can still qualify for Europe.'

Great man, but they had an opportunity to gain ground on Spurs and Chelsea and not only did they not take it but they lost ground.

I actually read a pretty good article a while back that stated that the best thing for Liverpool would be to be out of Europe for a season and I actually agree with that.

Honestly, this is a good squad under a good manager but they dont have anywhere near the required depth for Europe. The Europa league maybe, but they were getting away with fielding some pretty poor squads and using games to get injured players some match fitness and playing time.

But the Champions League? This team doesnt have enough depth.

Not to mention, look at the injury list:

Gerrard, Aurelio, Agger (surprise), Johnson and Kelly. We've pretty much run out of defenders.

I definitely won't be missing the Europa League if they fail to qualify, but I think it could hurt the team.

The money brought in is still significant, especially with the financial fair play rules coming soon. It also seems like incentive for more players to sign.

I won't be upset at the lack of qualification if LFC is actively spending this summer though. So many positions to address, it should be interesting to say the least.

The signing of players is a concern, but as for stars coming in I think what we're going to get is pretty well what you see. The squad will have to filled in around them.

The money is important more for the fair play rules than anything else, but the salary structure at the moment doesnt conform as is, but more money would have to go out in order to be able to compete in Europe.

I think they will be actively spending through the summer, more for depth than anything else. Dalglish has to put a bit more of his influence on the squad and we need capable replacements for the oft injured.

I disagree, I think there will be plenty of spending this summer. The new owners were always going to put money into our squad, and so far our players sales equal our purchases. Also, judging by the quality of players that they have been rumored to be monitoring, I think we will have some quality signings.

It sounds as though Ashley Young and Charlie Adam are very likely to sign, as well as Sylvain Marveaux who is out of contract in the summer. Other targets appear to be Benzema, as well as another winger or two.

I also don't think that qualifying for Europa league will have any difference on our chances to sign players. Players don't care about Europa league, at least the top players don't anyway. I think it is going to be a very exciting summer window.

I'd love to see a couple of big name signings to add some width and pace, as well as midfield depth, but my biggest concern for new signings will be in the back 4.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I have a feeling that this next game against City will expose how bad the defensive depth is for LFC at the moment. Potentially missing Agger, Johnson, Aurelio and Kelly could make for a pretty shoddy defense.

Pretty sure Liverpool are in the Europa league if they finish 6th

as long as City or United don't lose the FA cup final, which either of them would be heavily favored for

I agree. Soto Kyrgiakos is a terrible defender, as he proved against WBA last game. I'm not so sure we will go out and purchase anything besides a full back though. I think it is more likely that we get to see Ayala and Wilson get a chance next year. I'm sure we'll look to bring in a new left back though.

I'm not 100% sure, but i thought England got 3 spots in Europa, one going to the Carling Cup winner (Birmingham), another to the FA cup winner/runner up if the winner has qualified for Europe already (making Bolton highly likely to get this spot), and the next best team in the prem (5th place).

I have also read something about 3 additional spots going to the Countries who have the highest ranking in the financial fair play rules (or something like that), so England could possibly be awarded another spot.
