Co-op for me. You get 6¢ per litre back at the end of the year; plus 3.5¢ per litre to spend in store.

And before everybody jumps in that Co-op has the most expensive groceries; I just use that money to buy treats like a nice steak dinner, etc.

I use the Safeway in town from time to time, but it's filled from the Shell tanker. Not sure if that applies for all safeways or not.
I believe that as of April 1, ALL gas now must contain 10% ethanol ....

Another misguided attempt to be "green"... its been kept really quiet, but I think it went into effect today.

EDIT: It's actually 5% .... which is still moronic.

Another Co-op guy. That new station on Macleod where the Future Shop used to be is a petrol palace. Too bad their touchless wash, has the stupid wheel track that ruins flangeless alloys. So really it isn't touchless.

For the bike I use the Husky 94 oct. It makes a massive performance difference. Tough to notice in a car, but on a bike, it is massively noticeable.

Yes, Safeway is sourced by Shell.

Esso gas used to make my ol' Saturn idle roughly way back in the day.

Gas is all fungible anyhow, they all share refineries with additives being really the only difference.

True - the gas all comes down to Calgary in one pipeline and is gathered at the 2 bulk storage facilities on Barlow Trail, regardless of where it comes from or who will be selling it.

I buy most of my gas at the Gas Plus in Parkdale - it's cheaper than any other station around, but in a pinch I'll hit Superstore or Coop because the effective price with the rebates is about the same. I have yet to see any money back from Coop at the end of the year... I guess I don't go that often.

My wife's car takes premium (sigh...) and I only get it at Gas Plus since the premium prices at Superstore and Coop even with the rebates are higher.

Superstore used to give you 7 cents back in the form of superbucks. They dropped it to 5 cents and it currently sits at 4.5 cents.

Anyone know why they keep lowering it?

At least at the High River and Okotoks locations you get 9 cents if you use the PC mastercard. And they seem to be about 2 cents cheaper at the pump as well.

They used to have the 7 cents because of Safeway's "3.5 cents off at the pump" deal, which is why everywhere had 3.5 cents off -- and since everywhere dumped that in the past few years, Superstore cut a few cents off their rebate. The ones I go to seem to only be 3.5 cents per litre these days... where do you get the 4.5? And I buy with my PC mastercard all the time -- is it a PC points thing to get the 9 cents back? Darn "inner city" superstores!

Usually Shell for 10X Air Miles when they have promos..our 2 Acuras need premium so AM can add up quickly if I time it right.

Next is Husky when they have $2 off for 25L fill (8 cents/L discount, I think) and Coop as last place to fill up. Not really loyal to Esso, Petro, or other places.

Reminds me of this:

That said, I've heard Shell gas has always been a more premium fuel, at least the V-Power, so every 5-10 tanks I fill up and run one of those through. Not sure if the 5% Ethanol requirement changes that now though.

Gas wont make your car faster or make the engine cleaner or any of that garbage, at least not the difference between V-power and Petro gas and Esso gas.

You could do more help to your engine by cleaning your air filter, changing your fuel filter, or cleaning your intake manifolds.

Coop get bonus points for the return at the end of the year, and the fact that if it is freezing cold out they have someone to pump it for me.

The bottom line though, is it is closest to my house. Which is funny, because when I am done at Coop, unless I am heading home, I drive right past the Petro to get our to Deerfoot.

Esso is the closest for me, so I go there. I have almost enough Esso Extra points saved up for a Team Canada jersey apparently.

IIRC Co-op's rebate on Petroleum was about 8% this year. Was up around 13% during the boom. If you fill up once a week, that adds up quick.

Shell only for me whenever possible (also close to my house).

You won't see me near the discounted gas stations, and their lack of additives that modern engines seem to need more and more often.

Not faster, but definitly cleaner and more efficient. I don't get Check Engine lights when running V-Power / Petro-Can / Esso, but I've gotten them from Safeway and SuperStore.

I doubt many people clean their intake manifold, or know where their fuel filter is. And a fuel filter will only protect you from the nasties of a dirty holding tank.

It might just be mental, but I always find my car drives and sounds better when I can get Husky's 94 octane vs. the 91 octane premium available everywhere else. Husky FTW!

Anywhere that is convenient at the time. Call me lazy, but my time is more important than saving x cents per fill up. And yes, I'm aware that those cents/dollars add up over time.
