First week of spring looks like crap. Nowhere close to coming to double digits this week. In fact the trend is below normal highs for this time of year.

It seems like it stays colder into April these last few years. I remember green grass and soccer by April 10. Hell, even outdoor tryouts would be starting around March 20 back when I was in high school.

Global 'warming' indeed. Ugh.

Huge dump of snow you say? You got it!

Warnings
City of Calgary
11:01 AM MDT Friday 01 April 2011
Winter storm warning for
City of Calgary upgraded from Winter storm watch

Significant winter storm possible Saturday The potential for severe winter weather exists over these regions.

A Pacific system is expected to push onshore today and move across the Rockies tonight. As a result snow and windy conditions will develop for southwestern regions of the province overnight tonight as upslope flow conditions intensify. By Saturday evening the warned regions will see 15 to 25 cm of snow with winds of 40 to 50 km/h expected in exposed areas accompanied by blowing snow. The storm will persist into Sunday.

For areas further to the north and east, snowfall amounts are less certain associated with the track and intensity of the system. Additionally ground temperatures are fairly warm and a lot of the precipitation will likely melt on contact.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation and will update the watch regions as appropriate through the day today.

Anyone that complains about snowstorms is kidding themselves. Storms of any kind are awesome.

I have to admit that when I see a snow fall warning, I secretly want it to be one of massive proportions...it's kind of fun seeing that drastic a change in such a short time.
Dealing with the aftermath, once the virgin snow has turned to brown sludge on the roads, and I'm slip-sliding around is less fun.

I would rather it just stay snowy until the end of April - no melting - dogs paws are hard enough to clean.

Then at the start of May it hits 20 degrees and everything is melted in a day and the ground is dry and everything is perfect in Candyland.

Does anyone else think it's a bit weird for this warning to appear on April Fools Day?

I don't think Environment Canada is allowed to post april fools day storm warnings.
