Some Japanese Nuclear Rescuers believe they may die within weeks. True Heroes
This is truly sad but giving their lives to say their country is pretty awesome. What a huge turnaround from those stupid kamikaze pilots in the war.
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/03...ble-die-weeks/
Some restorers directly tackling the problems with the fuel rod containment chambers are limited to 15 minutes at a time inside the reactor buildings or working near highly radioactive substances, including traces of plutonium that have appeared at numerous locations within the plant complex.
Living conditions for the hundreds of employees staying within the plant’s perimeter to support the restoration efforts are also equally as hazardous, say the authorities.

Kind of a misleading title. It doesn't say they will die within weeks, but they expect to die within weeks.
Anyways, A real brave act and real brave people.

i found that last part odd.....so there's alot of radioactive water and they have to siphon it out. they're gonna load it on a tanker to nowhere?

And a lot of those folks have lost everything, they are brave to endure the work to save others but most don't care as they lost their familys,houses..etc.

There are going to be some pretty intense long term studies of that area and the people effected over the next 20 years.
I doubt tho that the truth will come out about how bad or damaging things are for a long time.

Don't care that they're gonna die? If they didn't care they wouldn't take 15 minute rotating shifts and just work with no protection.
I think they absolutely do care.

You know the Kamikaze pilots were doing the exact same thing these guys are doing, and that nothing has changed?

Exactly.
They're dying selflessly for their country. They were doing what they thought was in the best interest for their people, same as the pilots.

Except these guys are trying to prevent death and the other ones were trying to maximize deaths? how is that the same?

I'm not saying the actions are related, but the underlying belief these guys are doing it for are identical. Giving themselves in the defense of the country.
We're just on the same side of the coin as they are now.

Maximizing death/damage against the enemy was (in theory) preventing death of their own citizens. I can definitely see the correlation....both are selfless acts for the good of their country, and both take balls the size of church bells to follow through with.

Do you actually think before you type? They work in shifts with protective gear with a clear acknowledgment that they may lose their lives as a result of the exposure to deadly radioactive materials. They are willing to lose their own lives to protect everyone else.
They wear the protective gear and work in short shifts so they can prolong their existence since it is unlikely someone else can fill their shoes.
I am not sure how a body reacts to high exposure rates, but if you want someone to think clearly and be able to do a job, then you minimize the ill effects that the radiation has.

That conclusion glosses over the fact that the Japanese were also on the wrong moral side of the coin in World War II. Just ask any Chinese or South Korean.
Just because you use the same actions, doesn't mean it has the same moral justification.

I did, you still make little sense. The post to which you refer is fine.
Why don't you respond to what I wrote?

How doesn't it make sense? You agree that they do care and want to stay alive don't you? well that's what my post said as well.
I said:
"If they didn't care they wouldn't take 15 minute rotating shifts and just work with no protection."
responding to
"they are brave to endure the work to save others but most don't care as they lost their familys,houses..etc. "
Meaning they do care about staying alive.
You said:
"They work in shifts with protective gear with a clear acknowledgment that they may lose their lives as a result of the exposure to deadly radioactive materials. They are willing to lose their own lives to protect everyone else.

How is that any different from what I said? I never claimed that they shouldn't be wearing the protective suits or take breaks.
I was simply responding to the claim that they don't care if they die or not.
