Default How to lose the gut?

Simple question. I've been working out for the past couple months, have seen decent results where my baby fat has firmed up a bit and I've been leaner, but I can't get anything off my gut and love handles. How the heck do you lose them (quickly if possible)?

Stop eating. That's the only way to get partial results. I've done it twice now, but I always get the beer belly back soon enough.

I'm in the same boat. Happy with the size and muscle results but can't get rid off the last bit hiding any stomach muscles I may have. My trainer says it's all diet and cardio. My 2 biggest weaknesses lol. I hate cardio and enjoy calorie packed meals lol.

Abdominal bench. Crunches of different varieties will tone things up tout-suite.

Crunches won't get rid of fat (well they will do a very poor job of it, at least)

How much cardio are you doing? If you are an endomorph, you pretty much have to do at least 35 min (up to 45min)....possibly daily. Also doing high intensity intervals is very effective. Of course, all this won't help as much if your diet isn't rock solid.

There is no quick fix. You have to put in the hard work.

I guess I gotta do more cardio then. I typically go to the gym for 1 1/2 hours everyday 4-5 days/week. Weight training most of the time, then an hour or two per week of cardio. Food wise, I've really trimmed my diet where it's fish sticks, granola bars, V8, some milk and a few other non-calorie related foods. Problem is at work where others order out in the evenings, and always ask if I want in on that. Sometimes I do because I'm so hungry and boy do I regret it later.

Train for a marathon. You don't even need to do the actual race - just do the 18-week training program. When I trained for my 1st one (more impact the first time, obviously - the body is not used to it yet), I went from 209 to 167, eating as much as I could...

If you hate cardio, which most of us do, I would recommend getting involved in some recreational sports teams. Even if it is low level intramural soccer or floor hockey, it is a lot easier to get a really good cardio workout in a game atmosphere than just running on a track/treadmill. Lower level sports teams obviously aren't incredibly serious either so it doesn't have to be a huge commitment.
I'm sure there are more than a few people on CalgaryPuck who can point you in the right direction depending on your sport of choice.

Add more cardio to your routine, and keep watching your calories. Your gut is fat, and the only way to lose it is to expend more calories than you take in. Continue to work with weights if you are already, but add regular cardio to what you are already doing. The more you do, the quicker you will see results.

Good point, ball hockey and/or hockey is an amazing workout without realizing it. Racketball I found to be pretty amazing too, but you need a partner, and still need to do it a few times a week.

Like others said I saw a result from playing sports. I play 3 times a week and it always involves a lot of running. The other thing I did was change my diet by having smaller portions of meat and larger portions of vegetables. Wasn't a big change as I didn't change what I ate just the ratios. I've seen results from it.

As Vlad says, go running. If you're not used to it, start slower, keep adding 10 minutes or so per week to your longest runs. Get some good shoes as you build distance. The weight will start to fly off. And its just fun to be outside on the best days and also on some of the worst days too. Sign yourself up for a five km race somewhere to give yourself and goal and then work up from there.

Biking is also pretty good for getting rid of butt fat and back fat.

People slam "reality television" but the CBC's recent series "Village On A Diet" is probably something everyone who is weight-challenged or feelign trapped might want to take in. Very well done if you need some inspiration.

It's all diet my friend. You can work out as much as you like but if you're not eating right you're never going to lose the gut/love handles.

Obviously there's a ton of exercises you can do to work on your abs/obliques and I'd suggest throwing a quick 5-10 minute routine into your workouts to augment everything else you're doing.
