Hey have you guys had Sunkist oranges lately? They sell them by the cardboard box and say something like "get a box for the team" on the side.

These things are awesome - you can peel them with your fingers, they are all exactly the same size, there aren't any seeds, they are juicy and they're never rotten. Plus they last forever. I don't know what they put in them, but oranges have officially been perfected.

I spend easily 100 per week and that's for one - me. I'm by no means big but I do enjoy eating very healthy so that's probably why it's so high.

I should also mention that I don't ever buy fruits and breakfasts foods since it's all supplied by my work. So I guess I spent quite a bit....

I had always heard that Superstore gets the last pick of meat behind other markets such as Costco, CO-OP, Safeway, Sobe's, etc. Not sure if it's true but in my experience, their meat is crap.

Are these the Sunkist oranges you can get at Costco? We go through a box every 10 days now since our kids just gobble them up like its candy.

Probably...we get them at Safeway, though. We're at about a box every 10 days, too.

I just bought 4 boxes. They are $3.98 each if you buy more than 2. $.40 a lb is pretty good.

Not sure how some of you spend so little.

It's just my wife and I, although the boy still lives at home, he doesn't eat here much. He drinks some of the pop and we also buy him cheap frozen dinners to bring to work, but we don't feed him all the time (he's never home).

But for my wife and I, about $150 - $200 a week. We try to eat pretty healthy, which causes our costs to go up of course. We don't eat ground beef for example, only ground turkey or chicken. We at a lot of chicken breasts as well.

So that's about $600 - $800 a month.

yes. it is way cheaper. Also global a few weeks back did a comparison of the discount retailers, Superstore, Coscto and Super Walmart. Per unit Costco and Superstore were exactly the same and at Super Walmart it was like $60 more.

Razor Blade companies can never be too sure when one of those little emo kids are going to actually take themselves out of the gene pool so they gouge them while they can. Once again, the rest of us are forced to suffer because of emo's.

And shopping for one and a half, its about $400 a month. Eating out maybe once or twice a month.

Honestly, I think they're adding it up wrong. If some of these guys actually broke down what they are spending to eat it would be double or triple what they're posting here.

My family of four is around $900 and we eat pretty healthy, but we don't buy organics or shop at specialty stores. Pretty much everything we buy is from Safeway. No pop. No chips. No pre-made Hungry Man-type dinners. But $25/week? Impossible.

Probably relates to how much they have to charge to make a profit. I seem to recall a major breakthrough in technology long ago (60's?) when a company came out with a blade that lasted 10 or more times longer than anything else on the market...the "Wilkinson Sword" seems to come to mind as the company. After that, all the other companies, e.g. Gillette and others, had to follow suit with the same quality of of blades in order to compete.

With just me, I"m reasonably sure I'm around $100/month over this past winter. I tend to cook large amounts of bulk food and eat leftovers for several days afterwards. Another big saving was going back to making my own lunches instead of heading out to Subway, et. al every workday (that alone is like $40-50/week).

I suppose that will go up once I start BBQing more often.

I budget $100/week and end up in the $80-100 range most of the time. So I guess $400/month. That's for just me.

Edit. I shop at Superstore exclusively.

I'll have to try those, the u-pick-em oranges at Safeway have been nasty lately. You know the ones that have started to resemble a gaping bum-hole? So sick.

I find that price comparison very interesting.
I shop mostly at Super Wal-Mart - and have cut our grocery bills in half by buyign there and not wasting. I tried Superstore and found that for what we buy, it didn't save me any more than Wal Mart and Wal Mart's meat and produce were better.

I also do trips to Costco for bulk items - but find you have to be really careful - some stuff is priced really well - other stuff is more expensive than Safeway (ie. Fresh chicken breasts if they aren't on sale).

Anyway - two of us and 2 dogs, $150 per week on average. Working on getting that lower though - and can't wait to gut the vegetable budget in half in the summer months with our garden!

Orange season is just about over; we're getting the junk that's been sitting in a crate or too long on a tree.

Man summer can't come soon enough. It seems like I've been eating apples from the 90's.
