Best Caesar In Calgary
Let's get down to brass tacks here. The caesar was invented in Calgary in 1969 by Walter Chell at the (now called) Westin Hotel downtown. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesar_(cocktail). So my question is, where is the best caesar in the city? Is it at the birthplace? I am going there on May 13th which is "Caesar Day" in Calgary to try it out. But the best one I've had so far is at Deerfoot Casino. Just an incredible caesar there and consistent. Also only about $5.80 whereas some places charge up to $7.50.
So caesar lovers, what say you?

I think it's the extras...like hot peppers, stuffed olives...and then they extra spices. As long as it's made with Clamato juice it's all good

The Ceaser is a pretty personal drink imo, some people like more Worcestershire, some like more heat. A perfect Ceaser to one person might not be great to another.

mm I love gin caesars. I like when they add a bit of horseradish to it, really tasty.
There is a hotel on Macleod Trail - Boomtown Lounge, serves what they call a "Brutus" - tons of horseradish, super spicy. Really good.

Caesar is my favourite alchoholic drink for sure. I find its a unique drink in the sense that they seem to taste completely different depending where you are. No two places make them the same. As someone who's going to be in town soon, I'm keeping my eyes on this thread.
As far as chains go, BP's makes a pretty nice caesar. I love how they replaced celery with those spicy beans. I could eat a whole jar of those things.

Best Caesar: The one I make at home:
- Fill a glass (I use a tall beer glass) 1/2 way with ice.
- 1 shot of Vodka. Polar Ice!
- 3 dashes of Frank's Caesar spicer
- 6 dashes of worcestershire sauce
- dash of caesar salt
- 1 teaspoon of pickle juice.
- 3 cracks of fresh pepper
- 3 cracks of fresh salt
- Fill glass with Mott's Clamato Original Casear
- Then ROLL the contents 4 times. Roll meaning: pour into one glass, and then back into your original glass. This allows for better mixing than stirring.
- Salt the rim (if you want)
- Garnish with pickled asparagus and a slice of pickle
- ENJOY!

Unicorn on 8th Ave has pretty decent caesars.
When I make them at home, I usually include a splash of soya sauce along with the worcestershire.

I use a glass similar to this:
I'm not a big fan of the classic celery garnish. I've seen pickled beans before. They were good!

You can get em at Superstore too. I briefly bartended at BP's a few years ago and they use the Superstore ones.

I buy my pickled asparagus at Costco. I'll have to look for the beans next time I'm there.
