Default South Koreans buried millions of pigs alive (WARNING: DISTURBING VIDEO)

Due to fears of hoof-and.mouth disease, the South Koreans decided they needed to slaughter three million pigs at the start of this year. This is unfortunate, but not that unusual, and really nothing I have a huge problem with.

However, I do have a problem with their chosen method: burying them alive in huge mass graves.

There is a video of this filmed apparently by local animal rights people.

WARNING: THIS VIDEO IS SERIOUSLY DISTURBING.

Words fail me.

There's an internet petition to stop this practice.

Yeah.... I won't watch.

I thought I would watch it for the acedemic value, but after 5 seconds and seeing that first pig slide down... forget it.

I'm not making a moral judgement, but it was too sad to see.

As the Nazi's found out, shooting people/pigs individually takes a very long time, costs a lot of money, and you need a lot of bullets. And with soldiers shooting other people, it makes them go crazy, not sure it would be the same for pigs or not...

But yeah, I don't know what the alternative is. If you're gonna shoot 3 million pigs, they'd still be there.

Hoof and mouth disease is highly contagious. That's probably the reason they didn't want to kill them first, and have as less contact with the pigs as possible.

I don't see why they couldn't just shoot them w/ a .22cal to the head, probably would've been easier and far more humane. Those animals were crushed/suffocated alive, I find it especially disturbing because pigs apparently very intelligent.

Quite frequently, air pockets allow some of the animals to survive for several hours, even days, before succumbing to death - according to witnesses on site, their screams can be heard long after the burial.

Because they don't want the guts and blood everywhere. Like I said in my previous post that disease is very contagious.

TBQH im torn.

One side of me feels bad for the pigs because i dont think they deserve to die like that.

The other side of me realizes that they are probably all sick, this is the most cost effective way of killing them, and that in the end they are stupid pigs.

You could be right potluck,a head shot at point blank could get messy. A shot through the lungs would work, easy from a distance.

The real solution would probably be to gas them all. Still much better than burying them alive.

Have you ever seen what happens when you shoot someone in the heart or lungs. If they don't die right away the body tries to expel that blood by coughing it up.

And gut shots can be messy and it takes time for the animal to die while they run around uncontrollable and in pain.

But there had to be a better way then this.
