That is the concern about a relocation to The Peg or QC. The owners of these franchises will, sooner or later, make a third-generation welfare recipeint look like a piker when it comes to demanding government handouts

I can't speak for Quebec City but I've seen the who would own the "Winnipeg Jets" and doubt they would beg for handouts in keeping the team here. Even if they were struggles, there would be more revenue coming in from tickets in Winnipeg than opposed to Phoenix where their current deal is "2 tickets for $49 and a playoff game".

Yeah because rich NHL owners never beg for handouts.

lol. I never get tired of how "we would be slightly better than the absolute worst that currently exists" is somehow a considered good argument.
That said, I doubt that there will be any government handouts asked for, or asked, unless the government offers first. i.e.: if the feds about face and come up with some kind of program for arena improvements/construction.

Of course they do, like any business in the community they make concessions with the government. I've seen the area around the MTS Centre grow substantially since 2004, the city of course would offer the crumbling buildings at a reduced rate.

Hows that the argument? Who is the absolute worse? Phoenix, Dallas, St Louis, Atlanta? All up for sale. Winnipeg would be a middle of the pack team there is no doubt about it, I don't think anyone here is saying we would be the second coming of Toronto. But your bullsh$t statement we are better than the worse is complete crap.

Goldwater, Glendale continue to sound off
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...rticle1955689/
The suburban City of Glendale and the Goldwater Institute continued firing at each other on Thursday over the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Flatten article is here and Goldwater’s FAQ page is here. Glendale’s response can be found here.

What Glendale is trying to pull is clearly illegal and the fact they cannot prove documentation on most of those questions is a big red flag. I have zero doubt the GWI will win this battle and that is a good thing because this team can be a great thing for a good hockey market and Phoenix and Glendale citizens have shown nothing to suggest they deserve an NHL team. The sooner they are out of there the better.

Those articles are interesting. This item from the FAQ from the city of Glendale made me laugh at how juvenile they are being about this...
If the Coyotes leave Arizona, will the Goldwater Institute be to blame?
Seriously??? You need to establish childish blame for something on a FAQ?

Man, Bettman wants hockey in Phx at any cost.... offers the team for sale for over a year. The only groups interested have no interest keeping the team in Glendale as they all wanted exit plans if the team is not making money after 5 years.... so Gary finds someone willing to be the saveour .... Hulsizer looks at the deal and says that this is the worst deal I have ever seen... and Gary says "no, its okay, you put up $75 Million and we will get the tax payers to cover the rest, we will also pay you a crazy amount of money to manage the arena.... Hulsizers asks, well what happens in a few years when the team is bleeding money... Garys says not to worry, in three years when you lose $75 million the team can clame bankruptcy, Hulsizer is still up millions of dollars and the team is right back at square one. Soooo now its 2015... you have not built a fan base because it has been more of the same ... and now they are looking for a new owner. Tell me that their is a happier way that this team will stay in GLENDALE??? The simple answer... HULSIZER SAYS FINE! I WILL USE ALL OF MY MONEY AND ACTUALLY BUY THE TEAM! WHOA!! What an idea eh?? Crazy concept. Think about it, after all the money changes hands, the City of Glendale will have more money invested in the team then the "owner". So, who pics the GM and coach... the owner... or the mayor?? Seriously... no wonder the states is where they are at socially and financially. If this was any other country people would be storming the street looking for answers from their so-called "leaders

Haha, COG responds like a spoiled child after getting smacked down. GI asks straight forward questions and COG comes back with no substance whatsoever and provides it's own questions/answers. Just get the court case started already so we can laugh at what's next.

No they wouldn't. Worse happened in Alberta in the 90s with the government giving out free gifts to big business. Just look at the small examples I gave on the previous page.

The city reply is so disengenoius.
So the parking rights could generate "millions" of dollars over the 30 year term.
Hello?!?! You are paying 100 million in full and upfront, it better make you 100's of millions over 30 years, not millions.
Would the mayor invest 100,000 in her private portfolio and in a high risk investment category simply to make thousands over the next 30 years? How dumb doe she think her constituantes are?
It's just a misleading piece of propaganda.
However, both parties say the other side won't meet, how does that work?
Finally, if you or I threatened to sue, the city would laugh. If GWI really has no standing, why ddint the city get an injunction months ago? It's too late now, so either the city is dumb and shouldn't be trusted to invest the city money they are trying to hide something.

AT this point it does not really matter. The only thing tha will save the Coyotes is a deep run in the playoffs. However, the Coyotes/Jets franchise has not won a playoff round since 1987, so the odds are stacked against them.
Expect the NHL to make the announcement that the deal is dead, and they are selling the team to the Winnipeg-based True North Sports & Entertainment.

In Bettman's NHL the Coyotes could win the Cup.

I don't like the idea of Winnipeg back in the league, or even worse... in our division. They'll be like Minesota Wild II. No thanks. They will not spend enough on salary, they will not earn enough revenue over the long term. They will play Jacques Lemaire hockey. It might be fun for about 2 years, but then they should move to a larger market.
Sorry Winnipeg lovers, but I think the Blue Bombers could use a little more support.
The Jets were boring most of the 80s and 90s, I don't need to see that again.

It has kind of been pointed out many times already that American courts don't rule on hypotheticals. GWI has to sue before Glendale can respond.
Not that I disagree with the parking scam being a scam. I could show how the Saddledome could generate well over $100 million in parking revenue over 30 years, but that is for a building with three sports tenants and a lot more shows.

Win-win.

This sounds good to me. We can have the Calgary Flames A and Calgary Flames B squads playing in the NHL simultaneously. This city can support two hockey teams. When the playoffs come, team B trades their best players for A's worst players and we stack one team.
