She didn't mind sonny beating on the other player, but screams at the ref for grabbing sonny's head?

Also, her son knocks the goalie down first, then she gets mad for the goalie coming after him?

Just thought this video was funny, and if there were any other memorable parent freak outs, this could be a thread to put those vids in.

Real stories ripped from the headlines:
Quote:
  • A hockey dad and coach in Airdrie, Alta., just north of Calgary, got so mad at a referee that he dropped his pants and mooned him. He was suspended.
  • In Regina, a man spat on a woman in a rink, which erupted into a fight in the stands.
  • A parent in Calgary whined that a nineyear-old child who had just been hit extremely hard and was lying on the ice was “faking it”.
  • A Calgary hockey dad sat behind the opposing team’s goalie, and taunted him for an entire period. The goalie was nine. The dad? He got banned from the rink for the rest of the hockey tournament.
  • In April, two Toronto fathers sued the Greater Toronto Hockey League, one of its clubs and four coaches for $25,000 because their 14-year old sons were cut from a midget junior A team. Over 70 players had tried to make the 17-man roster.

Judging from the article that Jayems just posted, I think I hate hockey dads more.

One of the most uncomfortable conversations I ever had was when I asked my mom to stop watching my hockey games because she was embarrassing me. I think i was 14 at the time.

Luckily my parents never really understood sports, but I was completely hooked. Worked out well.

It would have been sweet if she fell off the stands and broke her face.

All their stupid whiny voices make me want to punch a wall.

This was my first year coaching, and I had nothing but positive experiences with parents. There are a lot of good ones out there.

25 years of playing and coaching hocky at most levels, all across Canada and the USA - there is a small group of parents that give the rest a bad name. Rarely do i see parents in the stands cause trouble (They as a coach tend to do it behind your back)

Kamloops Minor Hockey decided hitting would be good this year for house peewee. I have seen/heard parents yelling at the ref (13-14yo refs) calling them very vulgar names in front of the kids, had parents want to fight and heard parents tell their kids to "take care of" another kid. My son missed 1 month of hockey because of concussions due to hits from behind 2.5 ft from the boards. Leaves me wondering....what for?

An ex-girlfriend had a brother that played some pretty major hockey. I won't pretend to know what level he played at but it was up there. I went to a couple of his games and his Dad would just verbally abuse him the whole time...on the way to the rink...just before the game...during the game...after the game...at home the next day after a game. I never once heard a positive comment from the Dad to his son. I refused to go to games anymore because nobody deserves to be abused like that.

Curious, do you think this is the fault of the parents, the coaches of these players telling their kids to hit the opposition, or maybe the Refs/league for not dealing out harsh enough penalties/suspensions?

i just finished my second season as an assistant coach for my son's novice team in the blackfoot hokey association - and while i have yet to see anything really dumb you occasionally hear stuff coming out of the stands that just makes you shake your head.

i really hate it when people are hard on a young ref - some of those kids are 14 yrs old and there are a lot of rules of hockey that most people do not understand - and when they (ref) miss a call, it is the same as your child missing an open net, or feeding the puck up the middle or not providing any back pressure as the play moves up the ice.

my head coach this year also liked to do what i call "coaching from the bench" - which i really hate - i figure the kids have enough inputs on the ice - we can sort out the coaching when they are back on the bench and i have my board to draw the picture.

the other thing i kind of dislike is that some kids are quick to dump all over the goalie - i am likely more sensitive to this because my son is an aspiring goalie. one kid on our team got a shut-out because the other team could not hit the net and he thought he was suddenly the second coming of geo vezina and that he could criticize the other goalies for letting in goals.

i also wish that i could evaluate my son fairly against his peers - he was playing goal a few weeks ago, and he missed a couple that i thought he should have had, he wound up getting player of the game as voted on by the opposing coaching staff and i thought that he could have played better - goes to show what do i know.

as an aside, when i watch my son play, and he is "getting it" and having fun, i feel nothing but joy in my heart and nothing else really give me a similar feeling - anyways, i have really gone off on a tangent......

My Mom stopped going to games when I was 14 because she was sick of the verbal abuse the parents would heap on the players/refs/coaches, etc.

I'm almost dreading when my kid gets into it as I am not sure how I'll react to the dummies out there.

When I was a ref, probably 15 at the time, I called back a goal in minor hockey week semi finals in overtime because at that time there were no goalies in net for overtime so the player had to be over the blue line to score, and he wasn't anywhere near the blueline yet. Well that team lost like 10 seconds later after a faceoff at center ice, and the coach just blew up on me. Followed me to the refs room, I ended up screaming at him and he threatened to have me "never ref again"

The coach for the other team then grabbed him and pulled him away. I ended up calling someone up in the organizing committee for minor hockey week (forget what position, they gave the refs the number before the tourney) and he ended up suspending that coach for the rest of the tourney. But I was seriously shaking in the dressing room after that, I thought the coach was going to hit me.

This was a Novice 1 game.

I've been involved in coaching in Calgary Minor Hockey for about 10 years now and every year since Novice (don't recall any in Tyke) there has been at least one incident. I found it peaked in Pee Wee when hitting was introduced.

I've seen 3 occasions where a parent was removed from the arena for yelling at a ref. Those ones are easy to catch. The ones that are worse are where parents are filling their kids heads with so much crap it totally ruins their experience and infests the entire team with their crappy attitude.

The funny thing is that this year Hockey Calgary put out a video called "Respect in Sport" or something like that. A parent of every child on the team had to register on the website, watch the video and pass the test. Unfortunately, I found it didn't help a lick.

The worst parts are the playoffs and (somewhat less) Minor Hockey Week. Some of these parents have little to no grip on reality.
