Hilton and Snooki both became famous for being drunkin' sluts...not too sure the 13 year old should go that route.

Look at a guy like Justin Bieber. He doesn't have awe inspiring talent and the one song that he is famous for, has pretty absurd lyrics too. Like really, "Oooooo baby baby baby oooooooo....". What the hell is that?
If this Rebecca Black girl had half the stylists, publicists and image consultants that Justin Bieber's hander's likely hired for him, she'd probably do great. This is what pop music has become.
Funny too that people mention Bob Dylan, because wasn't he a Tiger Beat coverboy until he turned "hippy"?

What 13 year old girl doesn't want to be a pop star? Can you really blame her for wanting this dream? Can she even be blamed for writing a vaccuous shloppy song, considering so many untalented nitwits over the decades have become rich and famous for doing the exactly the same thing?
I have a 13 year old daughter and I can tell you that if she wrote a song it probably wouldn't be much better.
My first impression after watching the video on youtube was "surely there is someone to blame for this abomination". Firstly, my scorn was directed at Rebecca Black until I reminded myself that she is a 13 year old girl and there are some adult musicians (eg. Nickleback) who know better but still choose to make "music" that flies in the face of any aesthetic I'm aware of.
My second target of anger was the producers of the song and video. Why would they do this? Is this why they got into music? They are the musical equivalent of ambulance chasers, etc. However, I believe I heard somewhere that this particular production company is catered towards people with money who want their kids to be able to produce a song/video ir order to fulfill a childhood wish. It's not intended to be a 'label' production per se. From what I understand, what this company produces isn't necessarily intended for mass consumption but rather is intended for the friends and family of the little musical heathen.
Naturally, then the parents are to blame, right? But again, speaking as a father of a 13 year old girl, if I had the means to do something like this to make her happy I would. My daughter is in gymnastics twice a week. She has absolutely no chance of ever becoming succesful at it but she enjoys it and it's still a dream of hers. My twin sons (15 years old) played Midget hockey this year in a fairly low division. They enjoy it and while I've tried my best to temper their NHL dreams there is still a small part of them that believes they can make it. I think my reasons for keeping all of my kids in these activities isn't all that much different than what Miss Black's parents have done.
So, what exactly happened in this case?
-Little girl dreams of being a star.
-Parents want to make little girl happy and go to company that makes this possible.
-Parents/girl place video on youtube.
-The song and video is so bad that it goes viral.
-The planet explodes.
Who is to blame for creating the overnight "sensation" that is Rebecca Black? All of the people, like me, who watched the video on youtube and decided that it was worth our attention, scorn, anger, mocking, judgement, etc. are to blame. We made a little girl who dreams of being a pop star into a social pariah by giving it more attention and thought than it merits or was likely intended to produce. There are about 16 pages and over 300 responses in this thread alone. We have nobody to blame for this but ourselves.
(I will say this, however. That lady that interviewed her for ABC is a waste of skin. She would be the journalistic equivalent of an ambulance chaser and is essentially the embodiment of what is wrong with journalism.)

There was recently some local artist who decided to produce a pop song in the span of eight hours using just common chords found in everyday pop songs, and managed to generate interest from record producers. I think the guy even admitted it was a social experiment and proves that pop music is canned.
