Eggnog is gross

The notoepik household has a few traditions we count on.

Lefse with butter and sugar
Harry's Nutmeg Sugar Cookies
Mrs Pehls Chicken Wings
Stuffed Dates (dubbed cholesterol wraps by my nephews)
Grapefruit
Cheese's French Toast (only a tradition since 2002 but it is a fixture now)
Gram's Popcorn Balls

For those who would like to try the french toast here it is...YUM!

Grand Marnier French Toast Recipe

Ingredients:

4 large eggs
3/4 cup half and half (or heavy cream if you prefer.)
1/4 cup Grand Marnier ( A little more if you like GM ;-)))

2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
8 3/4-inch-thick French bread slices

Powdered sugar
Warm maple syrup (if you want)

Directions:
Whisk first 6 ingredients to blend in medium bowl. Dip each bread slice into egg mixture and arrange in 13x9x2-inch glass baking dish. Pour remaining egg mixture evenly over bread. Let stand until egg mixture is absorbed, at least 20 minutes. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead and is best that way. Cover and refrigerate or leave in cold garage overnite.)

Place Bread slices on baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees until the toast is golden brown......

Enjoy

I see there is some more Norwiegen blood on this board. Lefse has been a X-mas tradition in my family since I was a wee lad. Mainly because nobody will go to the trouble of making it more than once a year.

You can send them to me if they're dark fruitcake. I don't like the light stuff. You don't have to be drunk to eat fruitcake but the best stuff always has some spiced rum that's been soaking into in for a few months.

This polish buddy I know uses spiratuse (90 percent polish spirit) with his eggnog. Knocks you on your butt pretty quick.

Looks like Cheese cleaned up the French Toast recipe and made it a little healthier. I bet the original is still better!

Ingredients:
4 cups heavy cream
4 eggs
4 Tbsps Grand Marnier
4 Tbsps sugar
2 Tbsps orange zest
French bread
Put 12-16 pieces of French bread in a baking dish. Mix ingredients together and pour over bread. Put in refrigerator overnight. Turn slices after two hours. Next day, pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Butter cookie sheet and transfer bread. Bake 30-40 minutes, turning halfway through. Return to casserole or serving plate and sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.
