the forum at RFD has a thread doing a great job explaining it

but in short, you may have to call 2 or 3 times

I called today and got someone who basically called me on my bluff the first time and I had to hang up, but I called 30 minutes later and got someone who was super nice

I explained to her that it just didn't make financial sense to stay with Rogers with a deal so much better out there

make sure you use the person's name, and do thinks to connect like asking if it's a busy time of year for them etc.

I got 30$ chopped off my bill without losing anything

Just called rogers, got my smartphone plan reduced 28 bucks to 47/mo, plus extra calling more texts and earlier evening and weekends. I can live with that. I get a free smartphone upgrade too, whenever I want one...hmm

It's a Festivus miracle

Tested out Wind at my house today, and it isn't in the Wind home area. Called Rogers back and got them to knock $20 a month off both mine and my wife's plans instead of switching.

Just a heads up for everyone......Wind's "My Unstoppable" plan has dropped from $45 to $35/month.

The website shows it as $45, however I was in the Chinook Wind store on Saturday, and the $35 offer is now in effect.

Unlimited Canadian Talk/Text, Unlimited Data (3GB Fair Use), Unlimited Intl Text, Voicemail, Call Display, Conference Calling, Call Waiting......$35 + GST.

I went into the store (Chinook) last night to see what the staff knew about the new phones......not much.

I am 100% ready to pull the trigger on the $35/mth plan, but want an intermediate touchscreen Android phone. Had FINALLY settled on the Motorola Spice (from Mobilicity) when I saw Wind's announcement about new phones.

Now my concern is......will they announce all the new phones BEFORE the $35 deal expires?

Any idea whether WIND phones are CDMA or GSM?

So to understand thier plan correctly. You basically have unlimited everything as long as you are in a wind zone? Even if the other person is outside of a wind zone?

Wind uses AWS, but all phones (that I have ever looked into) with AWS are compatible with GSM. They actually use Roger's GSM network for roaming.

From http://www.windmobile.ca/community/ideas/detail/16157/

Quote:
WIND is AWS (Advanced Wireless Service). We run on 1700 and 2100 MHz frequency (3G)

They are "GSM", operating on the same AWS bands as T-Mobile. WIND phones roam onto the Rogers EDGE network (not 3G).

WIND is great if you have coverage where you live/work/play. It certainly does a great job of replacing a landline at your house for a very reasonable price. However, it is not great if you are going to be traveling to places that are outside of any of the WIND zones.

Nexus S on WIND is a great phone. Worth waiting for in my opinion.

You could just get a SIM card and wait for the phone you want.

Unless your traveling is to the US... then their roaming rates are nice!

That's actually what my plan is at this point. Just seems awfully silly to miss out on such an amazing deal/situation.

Earlier today, the shareholders of Russian mobile telephone operator VimpelCom voted in support of a $6 billion deal to acquire WIND Telecom, whose assets include Orascom Telecom, a significant shareholder in WIND Mobile. The parties are now moving to close the deal, likely sometime in the first half of 2011.

This transaction would create the world’s fifth largest mobile operator by subscribers – more than 173 million subscribers!
Foreign ownership laws?

There's no sense being worried about it. The (current) Government has already made it clear to the CRTC to back off on this. Legislation will be introduced if absolutely necessary.

Wind's access to cash/credit was the only real concern, and this handles that VERY nicely.

Am I the only one that thinks the CRTC is too closely tied to the industry? They seem very anti-consumer for a public agency.

Government has had to step in multiple times, with this foreign ownership issue, the Bell UBB mess, etc. They should just get rid of the whole rotten lot at the CRTC and appoint some new people.
