I have an extreme distaste for people who name their babies with baby names, with no foresight to know the damn thing will grow up and want to be taken seriously one day.

A lot of my old high school classmates have been guilty of this.

I'm having a kid any day now and I still don't have any boy names picked out. No Jaydens or Kaydens, Jaxsons etc. Girl name no problem but I haven't found a boys name I like yet.

And I find that the more people I know the harder it is to pick a name. Not because I don't want to name my kid after somebody else but too many of the people I know are idiots and I associate the name to an idiot.

Most of these "unique" sound like the names of dogs.

If you want to use those names, get a pet.

I knew a guy whose name is Jude. Named after the song. He always said when he had a kid it was going to get a weird name so it would, "...understand the hell I had to go through."

Liam never struck me as one of those pretentious names that bother a lot of people. It's a pretty traditional Irish name I thought.

The problem is that people try to dictate their child's future with a name. Lincoln is not going to grow up to free slaves or build a town car. Lennon and Hendrix won't end up being music virtuosos. A kid named Apollo, however, will likely crash and burn.

It's great to give pets ridiculous names, but not so awesome for kids.

Figuring out what I wanted to name my son when I have one was fairly easy. A name for a girl tho has been pretty difficult.

Most the names my wife lists off, I was either attracted to a girl of the same name, or a girl with the same name was ugly and gross, or she was just a trampy whore. Too many female names usually associated with someone. I'm leaving the female name choices up to my wife. So far one of the names she likes is Kitty.... yeah welcome to a life of being a stripper, lol.

Altho since I purchased the box set of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, my wife has really liked the name Deandra. I'd be cool with that.

I shall name my firstborn Bonecrusher.

But only to fulfill the terms of a pact.

I wonder why people rarely leave their ethnic groups when naming their children. If I ever have kids, they are going to be Ruriko, Santos or Dikembe.

Actually, I did meet a guy named Boris before who was of 100% Anglo background.

Seems like every other boy in Ontario is named Liam, Ian, or Colin. I think Liam is more Scottish?

Could be. The only person I knew with that name was straight from Ireland, but he once told me that his family history from way back was of Scottish decent.

EDIT: The interweb seems to overwhelmingly think that it is the Irish version of the name William.
