Obviously Firefly is never making it back on the air because only three shows are allowed on television; Crime Drama, Weepy Hospital and Lawyering Show.
I know i'm bumping an old thread, but this thread prompted me to watch Firefly and Serenity. I had been meaning to for a couple years now, I didn't hear about it originally when it was on, but I heard about it after and always meant to watch it because of the hoopla made about it.
Over the past few weeks I watched all the episodes in order and then Serenity.
I have to say that I was not disappointed. Wow, what a gret show. The characters are loveable, the writing is great, and every episode had me literally laughing out loud, which I don't usually do. Great series.

^^^After so many recommendations, I've also started watching Firefly on Netflix. I'm only a few episodes in but I'm liking what I'm seeing. The show is great for having some tense dramatic moments followed by a quick joke. The scene where Mal dueled on Persephone had me laughing pretty hard.

Mal: Sure. It would be humiliating. Having to lie there while the better man refuses to spill your blood. Mercy is the mark of a great man.
[lightly stabs Atherton with the sword] Mal: Guess I'm just a good man.
[stabs him again] Mal: Well, I'm all right.

The show was great for surprising you by not going the normal clichéd route with plots.
War Stories, when Jayne and Zoe rescue Mal and Wash
Zoe: "Jayne, this is something the Captain has to do himself."
Mal: "...No, it's not!!!."
Zoe: "Oh" *opens fire*

I'll be the one to bump this again, heh.
I was in the same boat as you, heard lots about the show but never got around to watching it. Started the other day on Netflix and am enjoying it immensely! Great characters and stories and, even though you can tell they had a limited budget, they do a really good job with what they had. Laughed out loud a few times during some sequences as well.
Only dissapointment is I'm only on episode 10 and already way past halfway done for the entire series. I know I'm going to be disgruntled when I watch the last episode and there are still so many loose ends left hanging. I guess I'll watch the movie again as it will have a lot more meaning now.... anyone have good reccomendations of where to go from there?

I don't know how much further they could go with Firefly.
They dealt with the government and while it wasn't a fatal blow the assasin did admit at the end that while the government was not forgiving they had no reason to come after the crew of the serenity anymore.
The crew was reunited except for the dead ones.
The secret of the Reavers was figured out, and I would assume they were pretty much exterminated.
Overall we had the happy ending scenario.

They would probably need to go into the post-series but before the movie time period.
Which would be awesome.

Spoiler!
Killing Wash was NOT a happy ending.
