At Deadspin, commenter Spiritus Mundi asks perhaps the most pertinent question: “So are we all going to be in Casey’s corner when he comes to school wielding a gun?”
Casey's actions could have prevented him from doing just that. now that he's not an easy target, he'll likely have a better time at school and will be less likely to snap and start shooting. what does that Mundi idiot think would happen if the kid just continued to take the abuse?
That is a dumb comment. He was physically attacked, and he fought back using nothing more than his body/what he was attacked with. There is an argument of proportional response, however at that age he probably doesn't know what his strength is, and frankly if you pick on a giant you shouldn't expect him to go easy on you because he's bigger than you, not when you started it.
He's a hero for fighting back and standing up for himself, and doing it without the use of a gun, knife, baseball bat, etc. Bringing a weapon in is completely wrong, even if provoked and punched in the face how he was.
Now was the Hulk Smash overboard? Yes. If the bully fell on his head he could have suffered severe head trauma (not saying he didn't, the way he got up was scary).
I think what makes us feel good about the video (especially those of us who were bullied) comes down to one of my favourite quotes from the movie "The Breakfast Club":
Richard Vernon: Don't mess with the bull, young man. You'll get the horns.
Bully messed with the bull and got the horns, the bull didn't pick up a gun and start shooting.

He'd probably kill himself figuratively or otherwise before he ever brought a gun to school. But that's ok because no one cares about things they don't see.
I'd love to see a poll on what people really think of this incident - not the experts. I think public opinion is in favour of the victim - despite the violence.
Why is it that people in authority do absolutely nothing when bullying occurs and then punish the victim when he defends himself?
They should have suspended the bullies and the kids that were laughing instead of Casey- or body-slammed them all to the ground.
I agree, although that's not always the case.
My first week of junior high there was a student walkout over a suspension on the issue of bullying. Due to the overcrowded school grade 7's and 9's were on different lunch periods, grade 8 was split between the two periods.
So first week a grade 8 on the first lunch period was picking on a small little grade 7, and from what I heard was beating him up pretty badly. Buzzer goes for lunch change and someone informs the grade 7's gigantic older brother in grade 9 of what's happening. The older brother loses his s*^# and beats the ever loving piss out of the grade 8 bully for picking on his much littler brother. The grade 8 was sent to hospital, the grade 9 was given a hefty suspension (understandably) but so was the grade 8 that ended up in the hospital. The walkout was protesting the grade 8's suspension. I didn't understand the problem with the suspension then, I don't understand the problem with it now.
Sometimes the authorities do get it right.

If that kid got brain damage from the slam it's his fault. If you go around punching people in the face for fun you get what you deserve. Just because the fat kid was bigger doesn't put the onus on him, and he could have made it way worse than he did and you can tell he went out of his way to not spike him on his head.
I think this video shows us once again, that people love to seeing a perpetrator get their just desserts. I know I felt kind of good (albeit a bit queezy) watching that kid Zangief the skinny kid into ground. That's another reason why I love watching revenge movies, or ones where someone who is wrongfully accused of something eventually vindicated at the end.
I've had a day to think about this, and I'm still in the good for you kid for the slam.
But I think that I have a fear of the now generation.
Back in my day, if you did that to one bully or one kid, you wouldn't be touched for the rest of the year, thats it because that slam was as dominant of a thing as I've ever seen.
Knowing what I read in the paper, I would bet at some point this bully and his buddies are going to jump the fat kid to get retribution, or the kid who got slammed is going to bring a knife for the next time.
In other words, I have my doubts that this is over.

To be fair, Casey took what, 2 punches straight to the face plus a few to the body before retaliating?
Sorry, thats a hero in my mind, someone does that to me or most other people they only get one for free, if they're lucky, before some form of self-defence kicks in.
The kid thought he saw easy pickings for some fun, Casey was far more than reasonable as far as taking punishment is concerned, then he defended himself.
Skinny kid just got taught a life lesson. The hard way.

If he had slammed skinny kid down six inches to the left I doubt he breaks his leg. It was nailing the ledge that did it. Not that I have a problem with it either way, but I think if the leg hadn't caught the ledge then the Zangeiff technique would have looked better. Oh well, 8.5 from the Canadian judge.

If anything else happens chances are it will make it over the interwebz too. If I was skinny kid, I'd be changing schools from sheer humiliation.

In places like Junior High, what usually happens is many kids think "but the bully was only teasing/bullying that guy, that's nothing. That guy is an idiot and I don't like him cause no-one likes him. Bully doesn't deserve to get his ass kicked just cause he was bullying that guy. That's not the same as bullying my friend. That would mean that we all deserve to get our asses kicked cause we all have bullied that guy at some point, and I don't like what that might mean."
i gotta say, i feel bad for the parents of the skinny kid.
1) watching your kid being a bully. cringe
2) watching the life of your child flash before your eyes. tears.
hey, im not saying the kid didnt deserve a smack up side the head and im not suggesting i feel sorry for the kid either. i do however empathize with his parents who have no doubt seen this video.
also, if he did recieve permanent or fatal damage, the fat kid will surely wish he could take his reaction back.

Personally I don't feel sorry for parents who raise a bully. I hope they're incredibly embarassed by little bitch's internet fame..

Did you see how hard the skinny kid punched that fat kid?
That skinny twerp got everything he deserved. If he had been permanently injured because of what the fat kid did he would still deserve it - the only shame would be the law would probably come down on the fat kid, but it still doesn't make it wrong IMO. The fat kid would have gone overboard had he kicked the skinny kid in the face while he was down, but one body slam is a fair response.
Also, don't bully tae Kwan Do kids. The 13 year old boys who stole the glasses off of my then 11 year old niece's face at a summer camp a couple of years ago found that out.

i doubt you are a parent. yes i would be embarressed as well, but you have no idea how difficult it would be to see your childs life and/or permanent well being flash in front of you.
kids make mistakes and should pay for them as well, but not with their life.
