definately an interesting story. I can't beleive that rogers would not cut off service to phone that is costing them thousands of dollars of air time. I wonder if they make Ted Rogers pay for all those long distance phone calls to Libya and Syria.

Cloning a GSM phone is impossible to my knowledge. GSM technology has many safety features. Digital TDMA and CDMA and analog technology broadcast your cell # and your serial # making it easy to clone. GSM to my knowledge doesn't broadcast the same way. There is an IMEI #, a SIM # and a cell phone #. I belive the sim card # does not get broadcast so your phone can not be cloned.

If you go on a trip you are leaving your phone behind? Call in and block your phone. That way if it is stolen from you while you are away the thief can't use it.

Or maybe Ted was in fact legitimately calling all those countries. Based on some of his billing practices...

On Telus right now, and International calling is not available unless I request it. Found that out when i tried to call my brother in Dublin. But text messages go through just fine.

You can call anywhere in the world - however you can request to have anything blocked text message/data/LD/voice. To my knowledge you have an international roaming block - not an automatic LD block. You can call Mexico, the UK, Hong Kong etc. If you travel there your phone will not work unless you request the oversea's block to be removed. Upon returning you can have it placed back on your account by requesting it. Ignorance is not an excuse - I get a lot of people requesting data to be credited back because they didn't know it wasn't free or lent their phone to a friend and they used the data. It is your phone and financially impacting - use it with care.
