Interesting.

Sharp doesnt seem to have much offense..but I guess the Heat are looking for forwards and if im not mistaken Seabrook had been a healthy scratch for some games as of late?

The whole 'trading players' thing doesn't sit well with me. I don't like it, one bit.

The AHL is all about development, and given how thin the Moose are right now at D, Seabrook is going to get a more ice time in Winnipeg than he will Abbotsford right now. Best for the player, and best for us.

Heard Seabrook has had an attitude this year. That and playfair has been a real dick to him in the media. Who knows what the real story is, but Seabrook hasn't been great this year. Not as good as he can be.

I agree with that wholeheartedly. To the tune of thinking such before I 0pened the thread.

I hope that's not the case. Might be because of brodie's presence. I also see his stats as a little disconcerting, but he can allay those fears by playing more meaningful minutes on a thin blue line in Manitoba, all the while putting up some points, since that is where his value is tied up.

Anybody who's read my posts re: seabrook since his acquisition would know that I have a very low opinion of him. He was decent offensively, but never stood out. On the other hand, he was the worst defenseman I have ever seen play hockey at the saddledome. Everyone praised Lowry's coaching stint for the Hitmen, and Seabrook was still bad. Playfair is generally seen as a very good teacher of defense as well...maybe he just doesn't listen. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a rift.

That could also be just an erroneous opinion by me...I just have never liked Keith Seabrook.

Brodie and Breen have settled in.
They want to see what Negrin can do.
Piskula is a steady veteran presence.
Pelech and Baldwin are both well-established.

Quite simply, Breen's progression made Seabrook the odd man out.

That's true. Some players don't take that well too.

I believe we essentially got Seabrook for free.
We aquired him from the Capitals for future considerations.

If anything the Flames got a prospect with offensive potential which is what most Flames fans wanted to see.

Wait is this trade at the AHL only or is it for NHL too? I thought since it said "loaned" that teams were just swapping players at the AHL level

Just for the AHL. He still apart of the Flames organization.

I was just trying to make the point that if he doesnt turn out to be more then an AHL player we didnt really give up anything for him.

I do appreciate your posts on the Flames prospects. I thought I would give some credit where credit seemed due.

I really don't think this hurts the team in any way. Seabrook was awful on defense - often no fault of his own. He was just too damn small to push around the bigger forwards. I'm thinking Baldwin will be the rotating odd man out now that Negrin's healthy.

I was looking at this list the other day and was wondering why would Abbotsford leave Jon Rheault off the list yet include Mikael Backlund?

It's a weird AHL roster thing that Playfair explained on Rob Kerr's show Thursday or Friday afternoon. The teams include injured players who may have been out all year (Chucko for instance) and then those players who are not on the list are added as emergency players.

It'd be analogous to the Flames having Langkow on the playoff roster (in the unlikely event that he returns for the finals or something) and leaving Backlund off, knowing that they can add Backlund in Langkow's spot as a supplementary player or whatever it's called.

Basically, it's a paper transaction that allows teams an expanded roster.
