Saw it tonight.
Awful just awful. You know when you reach that point, when a movie is so bad it becomes comical? Yeah that happened. Ebert's review is spot on, just a piece of garbage. If I had been the one driving there is no way I would have stayed for the entire thing. And it's not like I had super, unreachable expectations going in. I read all the crappy reviews before and was still amazed at how terrible this movie was. The 33% it's sitting at right now on RT is probably the most generous score I'd ever seen them give. Wow this was a bad movie.

I wonder the same thing also.
I really enjoyed the movie and will probably see it again within the next couple of days.\
IMO, its worth a better score then 33%

I'm just curious as to why he really hated it. It's not a movie for everyone, but I'm gonna assume he had some interest in seeing it since he saw it opening day. I can understand not liking, but to the extreme he was detailing, I'm curious.
Like I said in my earlier post, i didn't love it by any stretch, but I thought it was fine. Nothing special, but not Skyline bad or anything.

Basically, these are all the reasons why this is an awesome movie.
Randy Quaid = Awesome. Dangnabbit, he told us all!
The presidents speech was awesome. We get an extra holiday now. We have Canada Day and Independence day!
F-Yeah Mr. President!
"Welcome ta Earf" is one of the best delivered lines in all of cinema history.
Close Encounter? You got that one right Will!!
That Jeff Goldblum is a smart guy. Jewy I think.

I didn't mind it, but it was nothing special. Basically, it was Independence Day with better acting and worse cinematography. Seriously, what idiot decided filming entire movies with a handicam was a good idea? Blurry, shaky scenes do not lend verisimiltude. They only make the audience dizzy and sick.
It didn't help that every single character was an obvious stereotype, making every single character interaction obvious and predictable. I think the reviews were fair. It just wasn't an outstanding movie.

Was there guy who only had a few days to retirement who was hiding a horrible secret that lead to heavy drinking who makes a terrible mistake and watches his rookie partner die on his birthday?
How about the plucky slightly nerdish kid who survives the attack and kills the alien queen by wiring his Ipod to a satellite dish and sends a fused tacyon pulse into the mother ship?
Or the hot chick who's clothing gets torn and dirty who's cleavage heaves and bounces most deliciously as she runs for shelter?
Or the wise old man, who may have been a nazi or Vietkong but renounced his violent ways until the end when he uses a gun for the first time in a half century.
Or the wise cracking black guy . . . . What he doesn't do anything but crack wise?

Every knows you need an inverse tacyon pulse to take down the Queen.

This movie sucked.
You could so tell the whole underlying theme of it all...."JOIN THE MARINES, WE NEVER QUIT."
It was pretty lame. I was waiting for a 1-800-Go-Marine phone number at the end of the movie.
Not to mention the story and the acting.

I saw this tonight with my wife. I wasn't expecting too much, and didn't get much. When she asked what I thought about it as the ending credits rolled, I told her "It was a decent enough piece of action fluff. Needed to lose the shaky cam crap, though."...which was pretty much her assessment, too.

Not a very good movie at all. IMO they didn't show enough of the aliens.
The part where he rambles on and on about this serious subject near the end of the movie and says "but that doesn't matter right now" had the whole theater laughing. The acting was just brutal all around, somewhere in the Fast and Furious range of acting skills.

I still love a quote I had read from one reviewer.
Apparently, the aliens were too busy perfecting space travel and going fast than the speed of light to spend any time on making sure they've got Norton Antivirus running on their computers.

Saw it last night. Awful. Just...awful. Spoiler: How did one freaking missile take down their whole central command unit?? Especially one as big as that. C'mon man.
I'm glad I read this thread before I saw it, as it helped temper my expecatations going in. But what a bunch of garbage. Just awful acting/script. The aliens were pretty cool but we didn't see them nearly enough. I think Michelle Rodriguez has become my female version of Shia LeBoeuf, in the sense that whenever I see their name in the credits I automatically assume its gonna be crap. (I know she was in Avatar - which she was awful in - and it was still awesome so its not 100% accurate, but its close enough that I think the rule applies)

I don't really plan on seeing this movie, but I wonder how many of these the aliens in this movie are guilty of.

On the positive side though, the film being shot in fake handicam means the black market downloads also shot on a handicam in the theatres look fine.
