I agree with this. I think most good sci-fi, like District 9, is an allegory or mirrors reality in some way. Since you can use settings and characters (ie space and aliens) that don't have any associated connotations with them, you can get away with harsher criticisms than you could if you'd used known groups of people or places.

Special effects and explosions are fun too, but without a compelling story to go along with it, it feels hollow, imo.

I thought District 9 did an excellent job of blending a meaningful story with cool visuals.

Really, I watch movies for a different experience than I get when playing video games. In games, blowing up aliens with big guns is fun and it's interactive. If that's all I wanted, than I'd do that. Battle: LA is being described as a video game you have to sit there and watch. That doesn't sound that fun.

Good point. I think I'm pretty much the same. I can't sit through terrible movies these days, but I don't mind cheesey plot lines and bad dialogue in the video games I play. Video games have taken over for whatever role terrible action or sci fi films used to have in my entertainment fix.

I saw it at that theatre on the corner of Heritage and Macleod, was one of my favourite movies as a kid. I make fun of it just because of how cheesey it is, but I'll still sit down and watch it.

So what you're saying is that watching a kid's cartoon as an adult wasn't as entertaining as you thought'd be?

There are a few good episodes in the old cartoon, but the only consistently good thing was the voice acting.

That's exactly why. I was 12 when it came out. I saw it three times in the theatre. I thought it was the greatest movie ever made. You couldn't pay me to watch it now. It's pretty awful.

Whenever I see her cast in an upcoming movie, I usually avoid. There is something about her and crappy films that go hand in hand.

Barf. Transformers the cartoon is still super awesome because of the dinobots.Something that the stupid Shia movies did not have.

That first movie was so bad i regretted using my bandwidth to download it. Not even going to try to watch the 2nd one.

There is a really good transformer movie out there and here it is.

I watched it when I was a kid, and I remember thinking it was stupid that human computers could communicate with alien computers to upload a virus- like boths species used DOS or Windows 3.1 or something. It was mildly entertaining though.

They won the fight and Independence day was awesummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. A week later we went to Kazaam and it sucked ballssssssssssssssssss.
