I'm looking at a going to some combination of Thailand, Thaiti or Fiji for my honeymoon at the end of December/beginning of January. I've looked online and seen a few conflitcing pieces of information regarding rainy season, and wanted to know if any one has been there at that time of year.

Any tips would also be appreciated

In my experience, rainy season in Thailand is nothing to worry about. Beautiful clear days, then tropical storms roll in in the evening and pour for a couple of hours, cooling it off at night. Plus there are fewer tourists. It may actually be the best time to go.

When i get married my honeymoon is going to be in Bora Bora/Tahiti, IMO the most beautiful place in the world.

Rainy season in Thailand can be easily avoided by simply going to different areas of the country. The weather varies pretty greatly depending on which side of the peninsula you're on (I'm assuming you'd be doing the islands).

I've never been to French Polynesia, but my parents went about 5 years ago. They loved it but said it was VERY expensive.

I was on Koh Tao & Pha Ngan over Xmas and the new year. Had a few more grey days than I would have liked, but most days were still sunny and beautiful.

Sounds great. I don't have any tips really.

I had a friend from back in highschool who wanted to be a pilot but half way through becoming one, it was discovered that he had a heart condition that would prevent most commercial airlines from hiring him. Last I heard he was living in Fiji and doing charter flights in that area.... so maybe avoid taking local charters when you are there...lol.

+1 everything i have ever read it sounds like you get pampered but EVERYTHING is expensive.

Sad too, my mom went when she was a kid and she stayed for 3 weeks in tahiti for 1000 dollars all inclusive with flight and everything...

I went to a Sandals Resort for my Honeymoon (Bahamas). Best resort I've been to so far.

I also went to a sandals resort in the bahamas.
Exhuma was unreal.
Have been to Nassau and it was nice but Exhuma took the cake as the most unreal place I have been.

The comment about bora bora is correct but it will cost about 3 times the price of pretty much any other tropical destination.

We went to Fiji two years ago and we had a blast. Fiji is all about the visual aspect and as a PT photographer I was in heaven. The locals were not as nice as the other islands I have been to and that stood out for me about the trip.

Just to update this thread, it's looking more like a combination of Bora Bora and Taha will be where we go in the final week of December/1st 2 weeks of January. That does like rainy season but I am wondering how bad and risky it is there. If anyone else has been, especially during that time of year, I'd appreciate it.

Can't comment on polynesia, but rainy season in thailand isn't an issue in the south. Simply swap sides of the peninsula and you go from rainy season to dry season, and even then I've never found the rainy season to be something that would interfere with enjoying a vacation. If anything the rain will give you time to enjoy the in room 'amenities'.

a very special friend of mine has a treaty with tahiti cuz he owns a percent, he also has lands in the sands of teh west indies.........he has got it made......

i don't think there is a sbarro is this part of the world......

The islands of Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora are "High Islands" due to their peak altitude and their climates are slightly different than the rest of French Polynesia. What you can expect weather-wise is heat and humidity with days that begin clear, cloud cover building up during the day and then dramatic and powerful thunderstorms in the afternoons.

As for the island itself, Bora Bora is staggeringly gorgeous, though I would have to place it 3rd amongst the tropical islands I've been to behind Rarotonga and Moorea. Of course, this is like trying to pick between three SI swimsuit models. If there was more time between now and your honeymoon I'd recommend you take a long, hard look at going to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. It's simply the most beautiful place I've ever seen in my life.

Just to update, we decided on Thailand. We'll spend a few days in Bangkok before going to Phi Phi and Phuket islands. In case anyone has any recommendations for any of these places, I'd really appreciate it.
