You'll miss the physical keyboard for sure. I switched from the BlackBerry to the iPhone in November, and I'm still much slower at typing than before and make way more mistakes.

I still say you can't beat the Blackberry keyboard.

I do like the physical KB for sure, but have a real hard time with the smaller 9700 KB. If the 9000 size would have been kept, I might have been better off. The new BB's rumored includes a touch Bold with the KB the size of the 9000 apparently. That might be the perfect BB, but if I can get this deal now, I can use the Galaxy until I can upgrade next year in June. Then I might consider a switch back.

For now though, the Galaxy just looks too cool, with so many apps and a much bigger screen. Like I said, I'm gettin' old and seeing that small BB screen is getting tougher and tougher.

My Bold has been rock solid, so that worries me.
My first one was buggy as hell, it kept freezing to the point where I had to pull my battery out multiple times a day. That and whenever I'd sent a multi-text, afterwards if I sent out a normal text to just one person, it'd sometimes still send said text to everyone from the multi-text I had sent before (very bad if you have a gf and said message gets sent to all your buddies from the multi-text).

My second one hasn't been nearly as bad, the only prob is the back-space button has a mind of its own. Sometimes it'll just stop working, and when you hit the "home" key instead to get back to your main page, it wouldn't work, and instead snaps a screen pic. For awhile there I had over 50 screen pics in my photo log because of this. And at other times, the back space button wigs out and just constantly backspaces for no reason, which keeps knocking me out of things I'm doing. Which can be pretty annoying obviously. The guy at the store told me this is a pretty normal prob and the new 2.3 update should fix this, so we'll see what happens.

Over-all though I've talked to a few people with this phone and most of them don't have any problems, I've just got the most unbelieveable bad luck with phones, always have. It's really quite something. So it may just be my dumb luck, don't let it scare you too much. Just thought you should know beforehand so if it is buggy, you're not caught off guard. Also the fact he wants to do a trade off is curious, I'd see if he'll let you play with it for a day and see if its buggy or not, maybe he's just trying to stealthily(is that a word?) unload his glitchy phone off on you. Then again maybe not. If its any consolation, I really love this phone, aside from the glitches obviously.

Thanks for the info. I obviously asked him why he wanted to trade. He is using an iPhone 4 personally right now. He got the Galaxy, used it for a month and said it was not what he was looking for, so he got the iPhone 4. Said his gf wants a Bold and was going to post his Galaxy for sale when he saw my ad asking for a trade. Just said he thought it would be easier as opposed to trying to sell his and buying a Bold.

One of the things I do admire about apple products is that generally very polished and there is little need for patches and fixes. The product just works (that bumper issue not withstanding)

With Android and notably with the galaxy, it seems the development was rushed a bit to get it out to the market. The GPS isn't as strong (nor accurate) as in other phones. You may get the occassion crash or freeze (where you have to restart after pulling the battery out). Samsung updates were delayed in Canada. Some people reported problems with wifi connections. Others have issues where there phones power down by themselves.

However, to not freak you out, these problems happen with many products when they are initially released. Right now, I think many of the bugs have been worked out, especially with the Froyo update. The galaxy is also the flagship phone for Samsung, so if there are problems, they are more likely to find a fix for it.

I have to admit though...you guys are scaring me a little bit. My Bold just works. Even with a leaked version of OS6 on it, it works and I really don't have any issues.

I think by buggy he meant the early hardware revision problems that the Galaxy S (Bell Canada only) had. Same thing happened to mine and I had to get it returned and fixed once.

Although there are one or two buggy pieces of software, but they tend to be 3rd party apps and not the ones that are developed by Goggle.

OK, thanks. The one I'm looking at trading with today is a Rogers one, since I'm on Rogers.

They can all be unlocked nowadays if necessary. Since you were trading for it, didn't know which carrier the thing was originally from.

Good luck! Have fun with your new phone. Post on the android thread if you have questions a bunch of us will answer there.

The guy who is trading with me is on Rogers as well. Thanks FlameOn. I'm sure I'll be in the Android thread for sure...LOL. Now, that is if everything looks good. He said the phone is in excellent shape. If I meet with him tonight and there is a huge scratch or something, well, then I guess I'll stick with my Bold. I'll see around 7 tonight what is what.

Thanks to all who have posted in this thread. Your help is much appreciated.

I got mine from Telus in November and haven't had any issues, never had to pull the battery. I get the odd app freeze but this is pretty rare, even my BB does this every now and then.

The front of the phone should never scratch since they use 'monkey glass' there and I haven't even been able to scratch it with a knife. Back on the other hand is more scratch prone, but thats cosmetic and wouldn't affect how the thing performs like a front scratch would

I've heard about this no scratching thing but I have 2 small scratches up by the headset speaker. It's not on the part that actually displays anything but the whole face appears to be one solid piece so I don't know how that part of the phone would be any different.

So got the Captivate. Been pretty impressed so far. Updated to 2.2 and already rooted. Just been tailoring it a bit and will move on to some possible ROM's once I feel more comfortable. Nice to have a BIG screen again, I'll say that...wow.

once you get deeper into customizing a rooted Android with ROM's and root-only apps, you'll never look at another Blackberry or iPhone again. there's just so much you can do, and the custom ROM's can really extend the lifespan of a phone that a manufacturer has stopped supporting

How is resale with phones that are "rooted"?

I've had my unlocked HTC Desire for about 3 months now, but I'm somewhat worried if I decide to change phones. I tend to change it up every 1.5-2 years.

Yeah, I'm not there yet. Really don't know where to start. I have really customized this thing so far and it is really working well.

Next step is to maybe look at ROM's. Don't even know where to start though.

But...this thing is pretty sweet so far:
