Apple will be fine without SJ. SJ might have his finger on what consumers want, but their demanding attitude and TTM and all that really put them over their competition. I know a lot of guys that work on parts for Apple chips, on one hand Apple is a monster at generating revenue, but OTOH they are a pain to work with and bid on their project.

I think the big thing that would be missing without Jobs in compromise. Steve Jobs doesn't seem to compromise on anything (or very few things). The next person in line would need to have the same characteristic when dealing with mobile carriers, suppliers, etc.

Hey, remember all the fun last month when Samsung's Lee Young-hee said that Galaxy Tab sales were "quite smooth" but everyone heard "quite small?" Yeah, well, Steve Jobs doesn't. Before unveiling the iPad 2 today the man in black and denim listed that early misquote -- which was widely and officially corrected -- as evidence to prove that the iPad's competition was floundering. Admittedly that isn't far from the truth, but there's no need to go putting words in other executives' mouths to make a point.

Well, I am in the camp that is going to hold my ground for an iPad 3. This may put me in the minority, but I like the solid robust feel of the original, and lighter/thinner makes me think it will feel cheaper. Cameras are an absolute non satrter for me, as I have yet to use face time once on my iPhone 4.

The good news is, with the price drop, we decided to buy gen 1 iPads for the store and bought 10 32 gigs for $519 and the apple store gave us another 2% off for the quanitity. For devices that are going to be bashed around by a bunch of car salesmen, and used 90% of the time for quoting payments, and emailing brochures, I think we made the right choice. Thanks to CP for the price update! We were at the apple store 10 minutes after the post was made, and were the first to take advantage of the discount. They had 17 of them, and we took 10.

Personal hotspot comes in 2 days after the carshow starts, so I will just jailbreak my old 3Gs and and put mywi on for the first 2 days of the show and let the salesguys use it as a router per se.

Man, the ipad2 video on the apple site, had me drooling.

I really have a very little use case for an ipad, having a laptop and desktop and blackberry wiht data plan, however, after watching that, i felt compelled to need the new ipad.

I'm pretty sure there are subliminal images/msgs in that video, which are playing my subconcious.

No, but skype has their own app which has video support.

Many prefer Skype because unlike Facetime, Skype can do video calls over 3G (FT only does it over wifi).

I know it's not perfect and there may not be huge improvements over the iPad, but I didn't get the first one because I didn't need a tablet and wanted to wait for the 2 to come out with the video camera. I'm lovin' this announcement and will have my order in as soon as I can. What colours does everyone like? I'm thinking white machine, blue cover.

Going for black/black. The real improvements to the iPad 2 are under the hood, so they are not noticed to most. Wait till people get their hands on em!

I was looking at this from the perspective of what the most important things to me would be. I wanted more memory, and better screen resolutuion. As for speed, it's nice, but really, the oringinal IPad is still pretty fast, so not as big of an issue. Cameras? Who really cares, I don't use skype, and I have enough cameras as it is that aren't the size of a magazine. Weight/Size....I think I can handle lifting the extra 0.2 lbs.

No memory or resolution increase, meant a quick trip down to the Apple store to pick up a 1st gen for $130 less. The fact that the chick who helped me out inexplicably knocked another $130 off the price was just a bonus.

$489 64 gig 1st gen FTW!

I agree with you Bring_Back_Shantz... I like my iPad and I have the option to take mine back and get refunded the full price and get the new one or I can just take the 100 dollars payout to match the price of the current one. I think I am just going to take the 100 bucks . The iPad is plenty fast for me now and I wont ever use the cameras as I have the iPhone.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but for the clearance prices on the iPads, the Canadian pricing is closer to the US pricing than it was before, only 20-30 dollars more instead of 50 dollars more.

Will the same be true when the iPad 2 is available here? That would mean a slight price drop for canada.

Yeah, when I looked at the receipt, the chick that helped me manually discounted it $130, which is what the original price drop should have been. This tells me 2 things:
1) The chick probably didn't realize that the price drop was already in the system
2) I am fully justified every time I walk by an Apple Store, and giggle at the absurdity of calling it the "Genius Bar"

I'll be keeping my iPad as well but I may switch if they start making exclusive apps for the iPad 2. There's a lot you can do with the improved power.
