I'm sure a jailbreak will correct this little restriction.

Speed wise it sounds like it is also MUCH faster/smoother (vids):

Meh that being said, I'm also the kind that likes SSD and fast gaming rigs with multiple video cards running at the same time to power things are 2560x1600.

iMovie and GarageBand Compatibility: According to Apple's iMovie page, the new universal iMovie application for iOS will be compatible with the iPad 2, iPhone 4, and fourth-generation iPod touch, but not the original iPad. The new GarageBand application for iPad will, however, be compatible with both first- and second-generation iPad devices, according to Apple engineer Danny Patterson.

Me thinks the original iPad cannot handle iMovie due to only 256MB RAM.

new iTunes out, 10.2
"Hot on the heels of the iPad 2 announcement, Apple today released iTunes 10.2. The update brings compatibility with iOS 4.3 and improved home sharing support for browsing iTunes libraries from iOS 4.3 devices, despite the fact that iOS 4.3 doesn't launch publicly until March 11th."

I see this more of a refresh then something new... No different from than going from a Laptop built in 2010 to a Laptop built in 2011.
Really no big changes in the software.
Good purchase if in the market for a tablet.. but I see no reason to upgrade if you have a iPAD v1. Most people that use an iPAD that I know mostly use it for reading books, surfing the internet, playing a few of the simple games... Not video or audio editing, don't think they would see much of a difference.
Things that I like:
- Size and weight look good.
- Adding of HDMI Support
- Adding of front camera (Back camera still seems useless to me, on any tablet)
Things that I don’t like:
- Really no major upgrades to the software.
- Still no external media slot, only fixed storage.
- No ability to upgrade to 4G/LTE (Xoom can)
- No flash support… Until the entire web moves on still lots of sites that use flash.

So for the next little while the original is going to be $619 for a 64 gig model.
I'm not too concerned with the size/weight, is it really worth an extra $130 to wait for the new one, especially considering memory, resolution, and batter life are the same?
Other than imovies which I wouldn't use anyway, is there really much difference for an average user?

Not bad update, but I can't see upgrading. Great if you're in the market and don't have the first gen, that's about it. Without USB or flash support, I wouldn't bother with the upgrade.
The HDMI out was about the only thing that peaked my interest, and that will be backwards compatible.

It's quite a bit beefier in the cpu and gpu department. I don't know how much RAM the iPad2 has though. I would hope that it would at least be double the original's paltry 256MB. It wouldn't surprise me to see apps that are iPad 2 only (The new iMovie is one such app) , just because of the better specs. The cameras are a meh situation for me. I just don't see myself using them at all. It looks like the airplay and HDMI out features will be available on the original iPad as well, so you won't need to upgrade to take advantage of that. In the end it ends up being faster, thinner and with cameras. I have no desire to upgrade the iPad that I already own. If I were new to the game, I would shell out the extra cash just for the upgrade in speed alone.

RIMM/Playbook isn't even on there - I think if anybody lost today, it's RIMM.
Apple just did a "hellofu" to them by beating them to the punch with a second iteration even before they can get the playbook out the door. Speaking of which, is it just me or were there more zing's in Steve Job's presentation today (nevermind the Samsung misquote.)

Well sure, but imagine how much the stock is going to crash in those three days...
Mind you, it would be a pretty good time to buy.

Well, there are, but they're all crap. Practically every store, including Walgreens and CVS has some resistive-screen $150 thing from some random Chinese company that no one's ever heard of.
The Galaxy Tab is a legitimate tablet, Android 3.0 or not, and the Xoom is definitely the direct Android analog to the iPad. The Playbook looks more interesting to me than anything made by HP/Palm.
The everyone vs Apple race on tablets just hasn't hit that Motorola Droid tipping point that phones had.
