Now I am certainly not a lottery guy, I am one that refers to it as an idiot tax. However, it seems all these huge jackpots are won by big groups and companies.
Here is an idea, a CP group buy. We win the Jackpot, we buy the Heat, and move them to Red Deer, and for suggesting this idea, I get to be the GM and a 5/6 d-man.
Could we put a group buy together by Friday? And how could we do it?

Can we have a CP lottery for the Special Assistant to the GM role???

Idiot tax is a little harsh as a blanket statement. I think that it can apply to those looking toward the lottery as an out to escape their current situation but that is about it.
As alluded to in this thread, there can be some value in purchasing a lottery ticket. The tickets can provide utility in dreams and plans if you won (which of course you cannot do if you don't have a ticket) which can cover the costs (assuming a reasonable player).
I don't mind throwing down $10 when it hits 50 mil and I quite enjoy the dreams of despite having no expectations of winning anything more than a free play now and again.

Don't mind pylon. He also accosts strangers at hockey games and berates them for what they're wearing.

Bah, I just bought some tickets for the Stars lottery. Today is the last day for the early bird draw of $100,000. Not exactly $50,000,000 but I'd take it!

Ok off topic but moral dilemna ahead:
I used to buy the lotto tickets at my job a few years back from the spare cash from our recyclables. Now I was the only person that really was aware because nobody paid attention (it wasn't my idea to buy the tickets) and there were around 30 people the prize would have been split with. So I realized that if we won a jackpot (e.g. 30 million) that's 1 million per person which would basically mean you have a lot of money but you aren't completely set for life, buy a nice house, a decent car and set aside some extra cash for retirement but you certainly can't retire. So there was also the fact that I was the only one checking the tickets and I could easily just quit on the spot if we won and be set for life and just walk away not telling anyone. What would you do?

Do all work lotto pools through the WCLC subscription service. Eliminates all sorts of ugly messes such as the one listed above.

You'd get sued by 29 people and your winnings would be held until it all got ironed out. Or so I learned in another thread like this about a month ago.

If I had $1 million, I could certainly turn it into a nice steady cash flow for the rest of my life. Heh, in the intro finance courses at the U of C, they tell you exactly how.

It wouldn't be that hard to get away with. Don't cash it in right away and just quit without telling anyone.

I would, but I'd live it up in SE Asia and Europe, come back in the summer and live in Calgary.

I would move back! Or at least have a home/condo there so I can fly in when the Flames play at home, and fly out when they go on the road. My life would be following around the Flames from Oct-Apr(or June) every year. That gives me 4-6 months to do other things.
I honestly don't think I would want to win $50m, too much money and would probably cause more problems than it's worth. I'll take $1-2m happily, it's just enough to help a few friends/family out but not enough where you have to help everyone you know. Imagine the Facebook requests after people find out you won the lottery, all those new best friends and family you never met or heard of. It would be craziness!

For sure. Maybe just 6-8 months of the year though.
I would not want to live in the States though. so my winter home would be in Asia.

It would be easier to just get someone you REALLY trust, like a parent, to cash it in. Then the 29 people who you hate at work would have a harder time fighting it.
