What the hell does everyone like about the Sufan Stevens Illinoise song? It hurts my ears listning to it. Junk if you ask me. But props for being able to play all those instruments. Must be hard when he has a gig.
PS.
Anyone got any good bands that arent new age, or techno? (As bad as rap to me) But i'm not harping on it, just not my thing.

If you can't find the beauty in Sufjan's 'Casimir Pulaski Day', then there is no hope for you

Well I admit to have jumped on the Indie bandwagon to a certain extent...
but the Dropkick Murphys did release another great album, the Warrior's Code.
Guero wasn't that great of an album compared to any of Beck's previous.
I would throw Weezer's Make Believe as the worst album I purchased all year.
Some more best... hmm alot already mentioned. I really purchased not a whole lot of new music this year, I kept on wanting to say Blood Brothers - Crimes but then I remembered it was 2004.

Corby Lund kicks ass. If anyone didn't know, he used to play for an Albertan band called "The Smalls". Wicked group and we went around alberta and saw them in several different gigs. Anyone gets a chance, check out the smalls.
hahah.. if anyone saw them live, they'd know the wizzard.
Fav. Songs:
Ride On Through (Saddle horse has died)
My Dear little angel
And every song on Waste and Tragedy.
Edit:
Just dug up the CDs. I'm pumped now.

a few of my favourites from this year:
King's X - Ogre Tones (absolutely impeccable vocal work on this album from all three band members...and it isn't studio tricks. They reproduce it live every show. Do yourself a favour and pick it up and listen to it 5-10 times in a row preferably with good headphones...as with most King's X albums you won't like it the first time)
http://www.kingsxonline.com/
Kathleen Edwards - Back To Me (Saw her open for blue Rodeo in BUffalo a few years back and been a fan ever since. Both Back to Me and Failer make it into the CD player once atleast once a week)
http://www.kathleenedwards.com
Matt Mays - Matt Mays and El Torpedo (local Halifax band who opened for Blue Rodeo on the last noational tour. A great album IMO)
http://www.mattmays.com
Megadeth - The System Has Failed (Not from 2005 but the last bit of 2004 but who cares...Mustaine is back!)

The Gathering is great--How To Measure a Planet is one of my favorite albums from the 90s. Do they have a new album out?

I just wanted to say, thanks a ton guys. Some great suggestions on here. I've been pretty disenchanted with new music recently (other than a few releases), so it's been great to hear some good stuff from under the radar a bit.

Anyone have The Earlies' album? (They Were the Earlies)
I saw it on a few of the critics' lists you guys linked to. Worth getting?

But Dean Gray - American Edit, the bootleg mashup of the Green Day album which is even better, came out this year. That's my pick, along with Kasabian - S/T and M.I.A. - Arular (which might technically be 2004).
