I was going to say that. The production value for episode 2 was exceptional, I was surprised in how well it was done. The CGI and stuff looked decent for a change.
Very happy to see that Starz is putting more money into the series, Series 2 should be good.

So happy to finally see Lucy Lawless in some woman on woman action after faithfully watching Xena for years and her not doing it then.
But, yeah, this whole show is great. I like the language. Another thing I thought was great was when they were in the market plotting something. I could see the writers thinking,,,OK, they're having a conversation, what else could they be doing at the same time? I know, using the outdoor public crappers in ancient Rome. Yeah let's have them carry on the conversation while one craps and the other pisses at the outdoor crapatorium.
Thought that was great story writing.

Either I was focusing on other things during the first season (got sucked in by the blonde roman girl, then into the story of spartacus) or it was not as bad as it is now, but it seems like everyone deliberately destroys the english language in an attempt to make it sound formal and ancient.
My technical grasp on the english language is not amazingly strong, so it is hard to describe how they are butchering it...just a little irritated at times with the speech of some characters.

The "death" of Ganicus was surprising to me, I was like "ooooohhh shiiiiiiii", then it was just a nightmare. That was pretty cool. I hope the finale is as badass as Spartacus season ones was.

I haven't been a huge fan of this season, but I really liked this past episode. Very simple episode, but very effective as well with a great ending.
Will there be any characters that survive this season but come back when the new season with the new Spartacus returns?? With Sunday's ending, they're running out of characters to do that with.
I would love to see Gannacus make it thru this season, and somehow return, but something tells me Krixus is going to spill the beans on that hand touch to Annameus and he will go nuts.
oh and by the way, I have ZERO idea on how to spell half the characters names.

I don't know how they will have "returning characters" as season 2 picks up where season 1 left off. This series has nothing to do really with season 1 or 2 as it is just a prequel to season 1. I forget how season 1 ended, I'm going to re-watch it all after next weeks finale, but Krixus survives does he not? He and the new Spartacus will no doubt carry on the show.
As we saw with season 1 of the show, there was no Ganicus and Krixus was the champion, and we still don't know how that idiot lost his leg (I forgot the guys name, he is the a-hole who slapped the guys eye out).
The finale sure has a lot of things to tie up, hopefully it explains a lot of what happened before season 1. Really excited for season 2. Sucks that each season takes like 7-8 months to shoot only 13 episodes. I think season 2 will air sometime in October.

Ashar, Asher, Ashur???
So, the guy who played Spartacus has been replaced, from what I've read, in S2. Guess his cancer recovery is not going that well, or they are just moving forward, and he is unable to resume.

Just because the next season we see takes off where the original season left doesn't mean we won't run into characters from this current season. Maybe Gannicus doesn't get killed and gets sold and he meets Krixus again down the road. I don't know.
I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but I would like to see something different than every new character that we were introduced to be killed off.

I have a feeling they may retcon the story for Season 2 to bring Batiatus back to life. John Hannah simply brings it. It would be a crying shame for him to not be part of S2. I'm pretty sure Lucretia will be back as well, sans baby of course.

Except that would make no sense.
The story of Spartacus for those who don't know is a slave who basically starts a rebellion against the Romans.
I'm generally curious how they're going to maintain the political, sex and violence type storylines for season 2.
There should be no more gladiator matches, no more political intrigue. It should be a bunch of gladiators now freed led into rebellion by Spartacus.

Exactly! To rape and pillage the entire Italian countryside! Should be good.

I would love for that to happen but I don't know how they can show a giant rebellion of that scale on the budget that this show has.
I think they'll have to concentrate on the relationship of Crixus and Spartacus and how the rebellion develops.
I imagine it'll have to pretty small scale.

I wasn't insinuating that they need to bring Batiatus back to life for storyline purposes, to quell the slave uprising or anything. It was mostly just wishful thinking on my part. His acting has been superb so far and it's a shame he won't be in season 2.
I could've worded my previous post better.

It is unfortunate that he's gone. I really enjoyed that actor as well. I'm thinking the Praetor or whatever that guy was from Season 1 will be the new villain. The dude who was married to the blonde woman.

Did the blond women die? Because she was freaking smoking hot.
No more naked Lucy Lawless in season 2 either.

IIRC, I believe she escaped the ludus and ordered her guards to barricade the doors behind them so the revolting slaves couldn't get to them, which is why everyone else was trapped inside.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see that Lucretia survived and for her to appear in season 2.

Yep, Illythia survived and did what getbak said. She should be back for the next season.
My favorite scene with Illythia from that season was when she grabbed the chick by the neck(the chick who was laughing at her for banging Spartacus not knowing it was him). She smashed her face into the marble stairs like 12 times. When they exposed the dead girls face, her skin was falling off, the bones were out of place. One of the more gruesome visuals from that first season.
edit.....to hell with my recap of the scene, here it is.....I would embed, but there's a f bomb in the vid title.
EXTREMELY NSFW
