Why is that so scandalous? Your post put it at the top, now mine did. It's not like the forum lists thread by importance, it's just newest post

I realize with threads like this that organizations really can't win. There's no way with 40,000 fans and a few million watching on TV that everybody is going to like what's being shown.
That being said, anyone who cares that much about what bands played at the Heritage Classic, cares too much.

I know, I know.
I think this should honestly be moved to the OT forum though. It has absolutely nothing to do with the game of hockey.
That or we create a new forum. The halftime/intermission entertainment forum.

I also like Nickelback. I don't know where all the hate for Nickelback came from, but people on CP are obsessed with hating them.
And the music Nickelback plays isn't even really the type of music I usually listen to or like, but they are great singers. (which is why they've broken sales records all over the world)
I just find it funny how I've never ever seen Metric's band being mentioned on CP until this thread was created, but now it seems like they are gods gift to music and everyone is their number one fan.
She looked like a crack head singing at the game, and looks even worse in music videos I've watched. People in my section were bashing her so hard asking wtf was she doing and singing. Looked like they picked someone up from the Mustard Seed and gave them a chance. I was actually embarassed when the people beside me asked me "do u know who this is?" with a look of disgust on their face. I lied and said I'd never heard of them because really before this thread I hadn't.

Metric may be a better studio band than a live band. But I've seen them live a few times at they're ####ing awesome.

The official stance is bad threads will simple fade away. Therefore, if this thread remains at or near the top of the vaunted FOI forum, then it must be important AND relevant.
What do you know? Correlation does equal causation!

Things I have learned from this awesome thread:
- Metric ONLY plays live, and never ever in the history of ever would using a recorded track live.
- Metric is the greatest band in the history of all music.. perhaps the next Beatles.
- Tokyo police club is a close second.
- Not knowing who Metric is, makes you a complete music noob. So just go back to listening to Raffi LP's on your Fisher Price record player.
- And my personal favorite, anyone who does not like either Tokyo Police Club or Metric, is automatically a hardcore Nikelbak fan, without exception.
Awesome!

Who has actually said any of this? The mainstreamers have been just as ridiculous, if not more so. Examples:
- Metric are a band that nobody has ever heard of
- If you like Metric, you're probably emo and wear skinny jeans
- Anyone who likes Metric is an effeminate, pretentious snob, who doesn't get what real Canadians want to hear at their hockey games
- arloiginla has a degree in music and thus is an expert on everything related to music
- The only people who liked Metric were probably drunk

I think this thread can be moved to the Off Topic board.
The game is over, songs have been sang and the bickering should be continued elsewhere.

Pffft...what are you, an idiot? arloiginla has already told us that indie music fits into one neat little genre. With his extensive professional knowledge and prestigious music degree, how could he be wrong?

Sorry if the comment struck a nerve. I only meant it in the same way that one would not go on say, an underground hip-hop site to get a good take on what Feaster is going to do at the trade deadline.
Also, I don't think anyone is particularly brain-washed if they are in to Nickleback. I just think that they probably do not dig too deep to find the music that they are in to. I don't hate on bands that are popular just because they are popular. I hate on bands for a variety of reasons. If I give a reason for disliking Nickleback, it might come off as more venom, so I will not. I have found that it is actually a pretty rewarding thing to spend a couple hours every now and then looking for new music. Some people have mentioned some really great Canadian bands in the past couple posts that are doing some pretty new and interesting things. These artists are on people's radars all over the world because of it. This kind of thing is why I am totally behind bands like Metric and Tokyo Police Club playing at McMahon last Sunday. They aren't necessarily the best bands in the world, but at least it is something without a ton of sheen to cover up short-comings and it is somewhat fresh and different.
Now, if they could have only got DFA 1979 to reunite a little earlier than later this summer for the HC, then we really woulda had something...
