Default MV Collision Report Question

Hey all,

Just wondering if both parties need to go down to the district office to report a minor damage (still possibly over $2k) uncontested collision.

My parked car was hit (not hit and run) by a neighbor, but Im wondering if I need to get the other party to come down to the station as well so I can get my damage sticker.

I'd normally call and ask, but seems like the district offices are closed today (and/or not answering their phones)

No, you can go in on your own.

It makes it easier if you both can do down at the same time, but as long as you go down with his relevant info, you will be fine.

I guess I'll swing by the district office tomorrow, hopefully I've got enough details.

Also, do I need to call my insurance? I'm planning on grabbing a couple quotes and letting them decide if they'd prefer to pay out of pocket or make a claim. So don't know if my insurance needs to know right now (doubt it).

Dont call insurance until you talk to them.

If you called it would screw them over. If they are jerks you can call though.

IIRC they don't care unless you're making a claim.

No it wouldn't.

Edit: but for Ducay I'm pretty sure you do have to report every accident to your insurance whether you're making a claim or not, but I wouldn't if I were you. Their reasoning is that if you don't fix it and get into another accident they will have to pay for damages that you didn't make a claim on in the first place.

I just reported an accident last month. You need their drivers license #, their registration #, and their insurance policy # before they will fill out the report.

No need to call if the person who hits you decides to pay out of thier pocket. Similar thing hapened to me in 2003. Got some quotes and the person who hit my parked vehicle decided to pay for the damages. They gave me cash and I signed a piece of paper saying I wouldn't come after them for more money.
