Well, they're not an all-male alt-rock band, but they may have peaked in or around 2001...

If you can use the word 'peak' when talking about Metric.

For those who have never heard of the bands, no one cares. Did you ever think that maybe you are the one out of the loop, not the NHL? They obviously aren't going to book bands that don't have some broad appeal. Maybe you should listen to more than Jack FM.

At the end of the day its just a small part of the festivities, so who cares.
Evan as a fan of both Tokyo Police Club and Metric, I agree with the posters saying they aren't really going to get a hockey crowd going. Personally I would enjoy watching them perform at a hockey game, but I imagine they will be met with indifference from th emajority of fans at this game.

Likewise to those who have.

It's what we considered a trash band. The songs look the same from the beginning to the end of the song and every song look a like.

Uniqueness and the charisma of the musicians are the only contributing factors to judging the quality of music? Jesus christ...

Like Metric or hate them, they're still 100 times better than the Black Eyed Peas

Metric does not have broad appeal. I guarantee you hardly anyone over the age of 35 has heard of them. Certainly fans over the median age of 42 in the NHL do not know of them.

You'd never see the Superbowl go with an Indie band. In fact the last few years has seen oldies acts dominate the half time show. The median age of the NFL - which is slightly older than the NHL - probably has a lot to do with that. Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and The Who, directly preceded the Black Eye Peas this year.

Why does anyone care. Everyone will be busy standing in line to use the washroom to warm up while the bands are playing!

It's not like Metric doesn't sell a lot of albums. The only reason why they are "indie" is because they never signed to a major label. Instead, they made their own recordings, found their own distributors and manage their own tours. It's not like many of the songs don't have pop hooks. I'm willing to bet that they could have a record deal tomorrow if they wanted one.

They have had many of their songs represented in recent pop culture, so I would say they have a pretty wide appeal. From Wikipedia:

Compared to the acts that usually do a show like this or a Superbowl or whatever, they are basically a garage band.

This has got to be the biggest crowd Metric or TPC have every played in front of by about 40 times.

Both bands have played in front of bigger crowds than this.

The Heritage Classic isn't even remotely comparable to the Super Bowl in terms of viewership and sponsors, so I don't see why you'd make that comparison.

This is all about demographics and putting on a big show. Few people seem to get that.

It's not an AJHL game either.

...and an AJHL game wouldn't get two big bands like Metric and Tokyo Police Club to perform, so what's your point?

And that they suck a lot worse than Nickelback. If they were even somewhat relevant more people would know who they were.

And I'm sure your library is recommended by some solid people. You probably hadn't heard of Metric before this thread. I don't blame you though 99% of people have no clue who she is either.

True, but me sitting in a bathtub full of water farting along to Frank Sinatra would probably be better then the Black Eyed Peas.

Looks like McMahon confinscated her stash. She sounds awful.

(I do like Metric for the record, but I have also heard she is quite spotty on performances.)
