Maybe they're old and mellowed out now.

If we have an ATP tournament where the best player is Roddick or Verdasco or Monfils then do we really want to have one?

Like in golf, would we rather host a Skins Game or a crappy PGA tournament?

-----

Roanic gets Fish tomorrow.
As long they have a few big names and tickets were not expensive I think they would get good crowds, especially if a good Canadian was in it. I don't know if the Corral would be good enough to host the event, but it wasn't like the Memphis building was anything special either.

after winning the first set, Raonic is in a very tight 2nd set.

Couple of announcements on the broadcast.

Sportsnet One will be showing the Rebecca Marino final tonight at 6pm MT!

Also, next week Raonic is playing in the ATP 500 Acapulco on CLAY!

Man Milos got some huge points for this effort - already 300 ATP points for making the final and a 200 point bonus if he could win it.

Looks like he'll be around 37-39th after this weekend and higher if he wins it. One more 500 tournament final and he'll be knocking on the top 20. Amazing to think he could be seeded at the French Open starting the year ranked where he was.

Also agree with you guys about being interested in the clay tourney upcoming. Will be neat to see how his game translates - a bit weird that he didn't go to Dubai though for the same points on hard court.

Dubai is way too far and not sure they would give him a wildcard.
Raonic still can't qualify for tournaments yet, his rise up the rankings has been too fast.

During the broadcast today they said that ATP uses the rankings from 6 weeks before tournaments to determine seeds, etc.

Marino had to retire from the match. I wasn't following closely enough to see how she got injury. Poor girl is having a hard time composing herself but puts together a great runner-up speech.

Unfortunately, Rebecca Marino is forced to retire after losing the first set due to an abdomen injury.

She gains 200 points and goes up to around 61 in the world.

I watched it and she couldn't move very well from the start. They said that she must have pulled an abdomen muscle at the end of the semifinal and carried it into tonight trying to fight through it. But she must have made it worse.

Ah, that's too bad. But still nice to see her doing well. Hope she can get healthy and come back and keep rolling.

Definitely a lot of Canadians paying more attention to the sport because of her and Milos.

More on the Marino injury from her blog entry yesterday:

During my match I had to take a medical time out for my left ab. The trainer asked me if I needed to go off court for the treatment or if I wanted to stay on court. Since it wasn't necessary to go off court (in my opinion) I stayed so she could treat me there. So if you were watching the match you got an extra little "side show" by seeing a sneak peek at my stomach. I hope my pasty white tummy didn't blind you; it's almost translucent it's so pale! The reason it's so white? I don't go tanning, so most of my skin never sees the light of day!
