Infractions
When one gets an infraction how do you go about challenging it?
I have to be quite honest here, it seems that infractions are given out incredibly liberally.

You can PM the moderators. Though its really simple - if you follow the rules you won't get an infraction.

If you have a question about an infraction you can PM the moderator account and the moderators can have a discussion about it.
EDIT: And to expand on what Jiri said, infractions are the only way we have of keeping track of behaviour over time.. If one gets a single infraction for something, it's not a big deal.. but if someone gets repeated infractions for the same kind of thing, then we can be aware of it.

i understand the idea but if infractions are being given out unfairly, it builds up a reputation that isn't accurate.
kind of like a 3 strike system, 3 strikes your out. i get it. but if 2 of the 3 strikes are balls... that's a problem

Then you PM the Mods and they have a discussion about it? I've been a Mod on a vBulletin forum before and I think you can remove them if it's deemed incorrect.

I don't. They were way too subjective and really only reflected the quality of FoI posters. You were never really noticed if most of your contributions were in the OT or OS threads.

So what do you hope to accomplish from this thread? How about you take some personal accountability for your behavior on this board instead of complaining about things.

I think that's obvious but since you asked, I wanted to know if a process existed to challenge infractions which I think are unfair.

I find this analogous to getting a speeding ticket when you aren't speeding and having the cop tell you to 'suck it up buttercup'
Unless you are suggesting that CP mods never make mistakes, in which case I guess there's no real discussion to be had?

You do know that, unlike the police, this place isn't a public service. It's not using your tax dollars. If they want to 86 anyone they want for no good reason, they can do so.

I've gotten infractions (ok, try to hold back your shock), and I've gotten infractions I disagreed with. Talk to the mods with respect, and they will return in kind. Not liking the fact that you got one isn't a great reason to go and martyr yourself. But I'm sure TheU will be back with another handle at some point...

I just slip Jiri some cash under the table and he sorts it out for me.

I'm going to violate my self imposed banishment to comment on this. You could be a poster (like me) who has been here for years and never been close to getting an infraction and a moderator could publicly call you (well, me) a troll. I don't agree that being respectful to mods means they will return it in kind.

Cripes man are you referring to the post where I said 'If a Kings fan and a Canuck fan get into a fight which one is a troll?".
It was a joke. No one specifically called you a troll. I apologize if it offended you but people need to have a sense of humor too.
You and a Canuck fan were having a big huge argument on a Flames site - it was funny.
Not everything has to be 100% serious around here.

Also, we've learned in the past that nobody is exempt from being called a troll.

Who will WhiteoutTheUCokmachineglowtheonlywhiteout come back as next? When you've just been banned under your 4th username, it's probably time to start looking at yourself, rather than the site.

Especially if you're not trolling. That is definitely trolling.
Speaking of which...
