seriously dude, $2.99 for a chicken platter at Opa? Seriously? We live in canada not east malaysia.

Seriously. Why do you spend time near this guy? Sounds like he is a wacko. If he asks why you don't want to hang out you can simply say you are tired of his constant questions about how you spend YOUR money.
I have one friend who is a bit like that. I will not drive in her car and I am very careful with where we go to eat. She has sent so many meals back because she felt it was not worth the price. Which in one case was justified.
Funny enough she is a good tipper.

Couple days ago was the first time in over 7 years that i saw him. We dont live in the same city. I figured id give him the benefit of the doubt that hes changed but it didnt take me long to figure that out. Theres a reason why i went 7 years without seeing him and ill continue that trend. Nice guy but at his age now i doubt hes going to change.

Ah, who cares if he's cheap.
What he's doing to his boy and his lack of parenting is of greater concern.

If that guy was my friend I would pull out a stack of fives (cause I am not rich) and one by one light them on fire and watch him squirm as they burned.

At first, I was amused by the craziness of that link, and then I saw that they were against working, and I was won over.

There has to be a show on A&E or TLC that you can get your friend on.

That seems pretty extreme to me. I wonder how he justifies (especially with the price of gas!) going to multiple stores to save a buck or so.
I do think that living under your means instead of over them is a better thing, but I really, really don't like to be in debt, so that is likely just a personal preference.

I can't wait for the movie (or the CNN breaking story)

Not to mention that at the start of para 2 his buddy never eats out, but by the start of Para 3 he is driving across town to...
...eat out.

I can't believe anyone would go to a different store for a $10 rubbermaid container, let alone four different stores. I call shenanigans.

It might have been $11 at Zellers.
Then you have the extra GST.
It all adds up.

Exactly. Being cheap is no big deal. It's irritating, but he's not really doing anything to hurt anybody beyond his own free time. What he's doing to his kid though is quite a big deal. To not feed your child at the most basic level is taking your quirky problem into a realm that requires therapy. I hope his kid likes diabetes as much as his dad likes Ikea hot dogs.

That part of the story I can believe because I know of people who do similar things and then "brag" about how they saved 79 cents with about 2 hours of work and driving time added on.

It doesn't bother me if someone is cheap and trying to always get the best deal. That doesn't hurt anyone. However, if they have a go at you for something you've done with your own money, that is another story.

I'm vengeful enough I would have pretended to be her friend long enough for the opportunity to royally screw her over came up.

You just explained the whole Arab and Jewish race.
Some people are just wise with their money. The guy who owns Modern Beauty Supplies in Calgary is one of the richest Calgarians I know. He's at least got $20 million in the bank, and guess what kind of car he still rolls around in? It's so old I don't even know what kind it is. Something in the 1990-1995 range. He owns rental property as well and till this day he shovels the sidewalks and cuts the grass instead of paying someone to do it.
Some people just hate spending money they don't have to.
