No Shawnski. I think I liked that one even less.
Perhaps if you started the story by telling how so many grasshoppers are born into situations of poverty, violence, health problems and other factors out of their control that play a HUGE role in projected education, opportunities and achievements in their futures I would have liked it more. The part where the grasshoppers misfortunes are all due to him being lazy isn't accurate with most people in reality and it made for an unconvincing read.
Also, as FH has pointed out, the part about immigrant spiders seems pretty racist and I'm not too fond of that either.
Sorry, maybe I'll like the next 1.
I guess I'm more of a non-fiction type.

If Martin should have known, but didn't due to incompetence that is exactly the sort of thing Gomery would have found and revealed. But the truth is that Martin was completely cleared -- both of wrong deeds and incompetent omissions.
But don't let the truth stop you from going on with your "Fiberals, liars, crooks" campaign. What's that word for someone who keeps throwing out baseless accusations in order to paint someone in a negative light? Something about "mongering"?
|
LOL...yup, im doing nothing but "fear" mongering when I suggest that Martin was incompetant as Finance Minister...got it. The only fear that exists is the one that this clown will get re-elected by the sheep once more.
And the Liberals did lie, they did steal, and have crooks amongst them...are you actually disputing that?

OK Let me get this straight....why is Martin incompetant? he had no responsiblity for overseeing the ministries allocated budget...and by default could not be responsible for the scandal of how it was spent....and last time I checked out our economy, it was doing pretty good...which happened under Martin, so where are examples of his incompetancies?
Did some Liberals lie, steal etc. Yes, undoubtably some did. Did the Martin Liberals try and do the right thing in regards to this? Yes

Hmmm...let me count the ways.
Actually, there are way to many to get into, but lets go over some major ones.
The whole CSL fiasco...either he is incompetant or corrupt in regards to this...pick your poison.
His very close alliances with guys like Raymond Garneau and Frank McKenna (a guy actually being considered to take over Martins role once he is gone...ugh) makes him so blind as to his duties...i suggest it makes him very incompetant.
On to his current business dealings...from what I think I know, feel free to correct me, he has moved all his current business accounts to offshore banks, registered his ships in foreign states (Bahamas) to avoid following Canadian labor laws and paying Canadaian taxes...the Prime Minister of Canada is avoiding playing by the rules of his own country and his creation...think about that. Then as FM he creates a loophole allowing profits from these same businesses to come back into Canada without being taxed!! When this is discovered he closes that loophole to all companies registered in offshore accounts....except thsoe in...you guessed it...the Bahamas!!
That's suggesting incompetance at any level...to be the leader of the land.
This guy was head of the Quebec Liberal caucus for well over 20 years, while acting as Finance Monister for 13 of those years. Now he claims that he didn'y know what was going on in his own back yard with the money he allocated, that ended up in his own caucus?? So is he lying or incompetant...please choose one.
Because Gomery cleared him means absolutely zilch to me. Proving he was involved directly is one thing, and one thing that can't be proven.
Believing he knew all along who was getting what money and when is another, and one that simply isn't a stretch to buy into when you consider the position he held both as a CM and as a Quebec Liberal leader.
This was plain and simply the most corrupt Government in the history of the country. He was either head cheese or number two in command for 13 of those 16 years...yet you want to give him a free pass as being unaware to what was going on around him. If that's the case...then your damn right he was hugely icompetant.

On a different matter of incompetence....the PM, on a day when he is addressing the UN climate change summit in Montreal, says "The simple fact of the matter is that our economies -- indeed our societies -- cannot sustain our patterns of consumption."
But.... gets blindsided by the CPC's about their campaign plane:
Quote:
In a press released entitled "Reality Check," the Conservative party blasted the Liberal leader for flying in a Boeing 727.
"Liberal Leader Paul Martin flew in to Montreal today to boast about his clean air record. Um, but he flew in quite the gas guzzler! Paul Martin is jetting around in a Boeing 727 - one of the world's noisiest and most environmentally unfriendly aircraft," the press release reads.
"Conversely, the Conservative campaign plane is an Airbus 320 -- widely respected for its low greenhouse gas emissions and noise control."
The release also cites a 2004 Globe and Mail article that reports statistics released by the Air Transport Association of Canada reveal the Boeing 727 burns 1,289 gallons of fuel per hour, compared with the Airbus 320 which burns just over half that amount, at 767 gallons per hour.
|
PMPM replies:
Quote:
Martin was defiant when asked about the fuel efficiency of the plane.
"This is a plane like any other plane. The only way to travel across a country like Canada is to travel by plane, and I suppose we could poll press members who are travelling with me whether they'd like to cross the country by bus," he told reporters.
Later Wednesday, when asked again about the plane, Martin conceded there was room for improvement.
"The fact is that that these are chartered planes ... what you are saying is there are more fuel-efficient planes that we could have chartered. I suppose that's something that we would look at."
|
Haha, not only can the Fiberals burn up cash, they burn up the jet fuel a lot faster than the CPC's too!! He looks pretty silly on this one.

I believe the kids would say "pwned". That is brutal.
Funny that he tried to pass it off with "well, you can't go around in a bus".
I think we'll see a new plane for the Liberals in the not-too-distant future.

This thread is a complete waste of space. Of course, that should be predictable, given the initial post. Get back to work guys, you're re-hashing the same old stuff.
Demented Reality; that's some nice axe-grinding you've got there. Way to stay out of the way of the real issues, it's a lot safer to snipe with lame 'jokes'.

Well, I guess I understand then, if you think this forum is a waste of time. I, and many other medium-long-timers frequent this place a lot for interesting and stimulating discussion on politics, news, etc.
I guess I just don't think this place is a waste of time, but rather a great place to get news, debate, and Flames info. Unless those count as a waste of time...
As for how you sleep, we're in the same boat! I couldn't care less!

clearly you do care, or you wouldnt have made your original post.
it seems a # of other posters found value in the post, i would suggest it was your post that was the waste of time, since it didnt really add anything.
either way, i agree with you, its a good place to discuss current events and other issues, but not all posts will appeal to all posters. i may not have a high post count, but i have been lurking here for quite some time. some very good posters for sure.

Yep, the whole thing... a waste.
Though, if you agree with him, and find this forum just a 'place to waste time', then fair enough, I guess this thread is up your alley.

I find it rather hilarious that in a time when governments are cracking down on executives that allow the misallocation of funds to occur, whether they knew about it or not, the CFO of our entire nation has no obligation to ensure that the money his department manages is properly allocated and used.

Here is a new version of an old truth !
Something to think about at election time.
THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER
CLASSIC VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The shivering grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.
THE END
THE CANADIAN VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. So far, so good, eh?
The shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others less fortunate, like him, are cold and starving.
The CBC shows up to provide live coverage of the shivering grasshopper, with cuts to a video of the ant in his comfortable warm home with a table laden with food.
Canadians are stunned that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so while others have plenty.
The NDP, the CAW and the Coalition Against Poverty demonstrate in front of the ant's house. The CBC, interrupting an Inuit cultural festival special from Nunavut with breaking news, broadcasts them singing "We Shall Overcome."
Sven Robinson rants in an interview with Pamela Wallin that the ant has gotten rich off the backs of grasshoppers, and calls for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share".
In response to polls, the Liberal Government drafts the Economic Equity and Grasshopper Anti-Discrimination Act, retroactive to the beginning of the summer.
The ant's taxes are reassessed, and he is also fined for failing to hire grasshoppers as helpers. Without enough money to pay both the fine and his newly imposed retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government.
The ant moves to the US, and starts a successful agribiz company.
The CBC later shows the now fat grasshopper finishing up the last of the ant's food, though Spring is still months away, while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he hasn't bothered to maintain it.
Inadequate government funding is blamed, Roy Romanow is appointed to head a commission of enquiry that will cost $10,000,000.
The grasshopper is soon dead of a drug overdose, the Toronto Star blames it on the obvious failure of government to address the root causes of despair arising from social inequity.
The abandoned house is taken over by a gang of immigrant spiders, praised by the government for enriching Canada's multicultural diversity, who promptly set up a marijuana grow op, and terrorize the community.
THE END

How lovely, completely untrue and ignorant but still keep on truckin'! It's funny how people act like they know the plight of the poor, as if it's just hard work that plays into the equation. Unfortunately, as I have seen firsthand this is not the case. In fact, it's a ridiculous assumption to make. And what's with the last paragraph? The first is just BS, but that last paragraph is plain racist.

Really?

In the 1980s and early 1990s, police say, the province's marijuana trade was dominated by outlaw motorcycle gangs like the Hells Angels and a smaller number of independent, "mom-and-pop" operations.
But in the mid-1990s, according to police intelligence reports, Vietnamese gangs began to make substantial inroads into the trade.
Since then, Vietnamese gangs have come to dominate the province's pot trade, especially in the Lower Mainland.
That dominance was highlighted in a recent study by the University College of the Fraser Valley that looked at all marijuana police files in the province from 1997 to 2000.
In 1997, five per cent of marijuana growing suspects identified in Vancouver were of Vietnamese origin, the study found.
By 2000, they made up 87 per cent of all suspects.
Sgt. Gord Friesen, head of the Surrey RCMP drug section, said about 90 per cent of the suspects arrested for marijuana growing in his city now are Vietnamese.

Hey, maybe you haven't been following the stories regarding Asian gangs and grow-ops. Lots of other stories and articles on it too.

Pretty clear it's a negative generization of immigrants based on a very small amount of immigrants who are in gangs or running grow opps.
What if we replaced the paragraph with
"The abandoned house is taken over by a gang of white people, .... who promptly set up a marijuana grow op, and terrorize the community."
Then I site your article
In the 1980s and early 1990s, police say, the province's marijuana trade was dominated by outlaw motorcycle gangs like the Hells Angels and a smaller number of independent, "mom-and-pop" operations.
Clearly it's a reality that in the late 80s and early 90s, white people were drug dealers who terrorized our communities.

I am amazed at the amount of people that cannot even laugh at a caricature of what our society has become. Do you all write letters to the editor about political cartoons as well?
Sheesh...
