That's you. Sure sounds like you are saying 'visitors' are treated differently.

If you were indicating that all people are treated poorly you probably shouldn't have limited your statement through the use of visitors.

So when a government raises money it increases jobs .... right?

5 dollars will not stop people from going to the USA. The idea behind it certainly will. Eventually these types of people will decide that 400 dollars at the border is better than 10 million used at Vegas and taxes gained there.

239 dollars to go to Vegas and back will have a 1000's more people than 639.

YEs is 5 now......but it wont be for long
I agree that it is a bad idea. Canadians tourism pumps plenty of money into the US economy.

My point is that for it to pass, it will have to get the stamp of approval from both US parties. It is being proposed by a democrat; it is hard to see the republicans opposing it ideologically. Both parties will have to shoulder their share of the blame for it.

I don't really see paying $5.50 to fly into the states as a big deal. We already pay a ridiculous amount of extras when flying, due to airport improvement fees and other taxes, so the $5.50 is almost negligible.
I'm more worried that this will open the door for much higher fees down the road.

Reading the comments to that article makes me sad. I realize the comments section on any article like this is going to bring out a lot of idiots, but some of the people really make Canadians looks like dicks.

But I wasn't indicating that all people are treated poorly. It's a direct and clear statement that I think they treat guests in a poor fashion.

The topic is about visitors. My perspective is that of a visitor. My comment described being a visitor. Couldn't be any clearer. I don't see anyone else questioning my stance on immigration (which I didn't mention), customs (which I didn't mention) or the treatment of citizens (which I didn't mention).

Again, let me suggest some remedial comprehension work.

A much better way to raise revenue would have been to let the tax break run out on the millionaires. Just a thought, planting seeds.

Perhaps you should join me.

What seems to be sailing over your head is the fact that ctizens and visitors alike are subject to the exact same security measures. Visitors are not treated differently than citizens. Has this point gotten through to you?

wow.... As an American I find this preposterous even if it's only a few bucks. We share the worlds largest unmanned boarder and I seem to think Canada as our Cousin or even brother country. The two countries should be working together to get cost of travel between the two down rather than raising it. We need Canadian travelers to visit our beaches in Cali, Florida, SC ect.. Just as Canadians would love or need us Americans to go up north.

This seriously boils my balls.

Nothing is sailing over my head. I understand your point, but thanks to my comprehension abilities I have been able to identify that it has ZERO relation to my point. If you want to start a thread called "Citizens and Tourists are treated differently", have at it.

I'll say it AGAIN.

This topic is about visitors.

They treat visitors and their own citizens equally badly.......they have to prove you're not a terrorist before you get to travel.

It's only going to get worse. Homeland Security will have scanners/TSA pat-downs all over the country.

That's the truly disappointing part, imo.

No doubt about it, I miss visiting America quite a bit - there's so much to see and do, and the country is incredibly diverse. Trips to places like Boston, New York, Seattle, San Diego, etc, etc, etc, are among the better highlights of my life. It's upsetting to no longer feel it's worth the effort.

Honestly, what additional effort is there? I get the objection to additional pat downs and the imaging machines (although personally I don't care at all, it's more humorous than anything), but most people aren't subject to those screening procedures. Otherwise it's virtually the same thing as a domestic Canadian flight, the only difference I've ever noticed is whether I had to take my shoes off. If that's a deal breaker for someone they need to suck it up.
