Dead Island
Apparently there is a new game on the horizon that plans on plunging us back into the zombie apocalypse.
The trailer is incredibly well-done, and also fairly disturbing.

Apparently the developers are aiming to keep it more 'realistic' by focusing on impromptu-melee weapons and a serious vibe.
I am intrigued.

Well that's one of the better video game trailers I've ever seen.

New game? This game was announced like 5 years ago. This isn't a knock on you by the way, just saying it has been in development for years and years and seems like they aren't making any progress.

It looks pretty cool though because it isn't like Left 4 Dead at all, and it really isn't like Dead Rising because the environment is so different. I'm pretty excited for it actually. Something like a Far Cry with zombies.

What was that, a zombie game or a Coldplay video? Cool trailer but doesn't shed much light on the gameplay.

Please do not ever ever compare zombies to Coldplay. One is really cool and is a lot of fun to watch or speculate about and the other is an insult to music.

Wow that's easily the best trailer I've ever seen. The original Gears of War trailer was excellent but this has emotion to it. Very strong.
Totally Coldplay inspired of course, and I thought they used the idea fantastically.

Looks awesome. Anybody can hire a good CG team to put together a sweet trailer though, but it looks like it's pointed in a good direction.

I agree and I disagree. The trailer is not indicative of the gameplay, so it doesn't mean the game will be good. I disagree that a good CG team can just churn something like that out though. From top to bottom that is extremely well put together and if it were the case that they were simple then we'd see a lot more great trailers besides this one and Gears of War.

I don't understand what you're disagreeing with exactly. Exchange "good CG team" with "superhuman CG team" and my point is the same; CG trailers have little to do with the game itself. What I'm hoping is that the game shares the same sort of artistic direction that the trailer does, because it looks like it's heading in a very good direction.

From the reading I've done the OP is correct in that it's a lot of melee combat and ammo is ridiculously scarce.
If this is like Farcry with zombies I'll play the hell out of this.

All I'm saying is that imo this is one of the best trailers I've ever seen. Trailers like this are very rare and not something that is routinely released.
I'm not saying anything about the game. In fact I'd say if the development cycle is indeed as long as people are saying it is, that says a lot more about the game than the trailer does (and not in a good way).

Well it had the intended effect: I am now very interested in this game.
That's the point of a teaser trailer. Get people who know nothing about the game interested!

Didn't know this game was in development for so long. I'll be keeping my eyes on it though.
