They should institute these sorts of fines for the people who use handicap washrooms as well.
No joke, after all the talk about using handicap bathrooms on CP, I went to the Dome on Saturday for the Flames-Kings game. Stopped in the bathroom real quick to spice up my Coke and sure enough I step out and realize I was in a handicap stall and there's a guy in a wheelchair outside the door waiting.
I gave him a quick head nod and quickly walked away in hilarious shame. I hope he didn't see me smirk. The first thing I thought of was the thread here on CP and couldn't help but get cracked up.
I would say just pay it and get on with your life. The fact that it was a handicapped zone means you are pretty much screwed as far as fighting it unless there was signage missing,

So you peed in your Coke? I remember when I was 16 and used to sneak booze into places too. Then I turned of legal age, got a job and now buy alcohol at the concession stand like regular adults do.
For the OP, watch Parking Wars on TV. It won't help you with your ticket or reducing the fine, but it will give you an appreciation for the job the parking authority does, how much crap they take, and how much easier it is to just pay the meter, park in the proper space and pay fines if you don't.

I'm with Cecil. Paying full price is for chumps.

Parking offences are absolute liability offences. Intent does not enter into it.
Unless you can demonstrate an error in fact or law, you are liable. Saying "I didn't mean it," even if you cold prove you didn't mean it, doesn't matter. The offence occurring is sufficient for conviction.
Oh, and the suggestion to claim that there was no sign there that day won't fly either. The parking control person will have made notes that contradict you, and unless you can prove the sign wasn't there at the time, you'll just end up looking silly.

You should go to court and fight it - I'm pretty sure after the judge takes one look at you, he'll agree with your "mental handicap" defence.
Just make sure you were your Oilers jersey, then there will be no denying it.

The short answer is "no". Your defence is nothing more than negligence, and will not help you at all for this kind of offence.
You can ask for a reduction, and depending on how the prosecutor/judge is feeling, be granted a slight reduction. You would have to present circumstances of your financial condition that compels the court to show some mercy - but this is unlikely. You will likely only be granted payment "options". These include "volunteer" work, a payment schedule (i.e.: $15/month for 10 months), or be granted extra time to pay the ticket.
Unfortunately for you, our justice system will not be sympathetic to your defence. Just be more aware of where you park in the future and move on.

Unfortuantely? Pssh, please.

Haha. Yeah because I like paying $100 to get drunk at a Flames game.
I almost always bring my flask with me to events where liquor is ridiculously overpriced.
Feel free to continue to get fleeced by paying $7 for .5oz of booze though. Real smart and adult like of you.
Have fun feeling all smug and important while you spend half the game waiting in line to get a drink and then paying amazing rip-off prices for it. I don't mind grabbing the odd beer but hard liquor is so poorly set up at the dome only chumps try and get drunk off hard liquor at Flames game.

I can't remember, but are you the one who doesn't pay LRT tickets because nobody ever checks?
