Generally the apple way is to discontinue the old product and carry the new one at the same price. Finding a used 1st gen iPad will be damn easy though as all the idiots like me out there who want to upgrade.

True ... but I really dont like to buy used electronics. Mainly because no warranty and you never know what the other person has done with the thing .

Unfortunately you could probably have sex on an iPad and it would look like standard usage. I guess then you just need to keep a close eye on the 2 days of sales that will occur when the new version is announced.

I don't get all the hype and anticipation about the high resolution screen and camera. First off, the resolution on the current iPad is perfectly fine. In fact I find the retina display on my iPhone 4 to be too fine. The text on some websites is irritatingly fine, and almost unreadable. And since I or anyone I know has got an iPhone 4 nobody has once used facetime. And I know about 10 people with the device. I will however laugh my ass of the first time I see someone using their iPad to take pictures with a rear facing camera. With the cost of a decent quality point and shoot being so low now, who is going to walk around a museum with their 10" tablet snapping photos? That is a fanboy lol.
I would rahter they put all the money into getting the processor as fast as possible, an Ethernet port, and a couple USB ports. The form factor of the device is already perfect IMO, with the exception of those issues.

I use Skype on my iPhone all the time now that you don't need to be on a wifi connection. The iPad will be used in the same way. It's not for taking pictures like you would with your phone. It's for video conferencing. That's why it's rumored to only have a 3 megapixel camera. You don't need super high quality lense for video calls.
They won't be putting an ethernet port on an iPad. It makes no sense for the device to be tethered anything. Maybe they'll release a docking station that will have an ethernet port but even that is doubtful. it's not a computer.
A USB port is possible. It would make it quite a bit thicker though. In the past, Apple has always kept the first and second iteration of a product line relatively similar in dimensions. This allows them and other periphery makers to develop products that can carry over (or be modified slightly) between different generations of devices.

If there's one thing the tablet industry is missing, it's wired networking.

The only way I can see having wired networking or USB support is to add a cable to connect them through the current connection. And that doesn't seem elegant enough for Apple to consider it as an option.

There's talk of micro-USB being a standard charging format in EU, and that the new iPad would have to comply with this... so USB could be a relalistic option.
Although, this is Apple we're talking about here. It would probably be a charge-only USB port with data and device services disabled. I can't imagine them suddenly deciding to allow people to plug hard drives and keyboards into the side if their iPads. Especially not when you can already do all that stuff wirelessly anyway.

It's surely a slow day for the tech talk forum when "ethernet on a tablet" even warrants discussion.

Not every single business building has full on wifi access. We have areas in our building where it would be nice to just plug in, and have internet access. Plus a lot of hotels are still plug in only, and the iPad is an ideal travel device. Plus if you live in a condo building with 30 other routers clogging traffic, some times it tends to slow down, and a hard line would be a nice option.
I am guessing though if it has USB ports on the new version, you will likely be able to use the extrernal ethernet adapter available for the Mac Air.

I'm almost certain that you won't be able to use the ethernet adapter even if there is a USB port. Plugging a tablet device into the wall pretty much defeats the purpose of a tablet device.
This is why God invented mobile data.

If you really want to use ethernet fork out $99 and buy an Airport Express. With iPhones soon gaining mobile hotspot capability, there's no way Apple does anything to make the iPad usable with plugin networks.
God i hate cables.

All reasons I'm glad there's a 3G option on the iPad.
