I'm much more interested in specific ideas/beliefs and how they affect the political and social part of our modern lives.

I do enjoy talking big ideas and big picture when it comes to debating a religious person, too often I come across people who are religious but truly have never given God, their beliefs, much thought other than a very basic understanding of their own religion.

I think the numbers for religious in the US for example are way off, everyone calls themselves Christian, but how many of them hold literalism as absolute truth, how many claim to truly believe in creationism, actually do.

There's been interesting studies done in EU, Britain and even the US where questions were asked not mentioning at all religious, trying to spot church attendance, those numbers were quite skewed in comparison to religious pollstering which people claimed much much higher church attendance than these new studies were concluding.

I just think people need to stop with calling people like Dawkins and outspoken atheists as 'militant.' Its an absurd thing to say, call them passionate, rude, aggressive, mean, etc.. Whatever floats your boat, but Militant?? Really?

I guess in politics anyone who espouses similar passion in their discourse is militant too? Rachel Maddow, militant liberal. Glen Beck, militant crazy person.

What if thier God and beliefs that go with it has nothing to do with any type of religion?

I happen to believe there is a God but I have no use, as stated earlier in this thread, for organised religion. My beliefs are not tied to any particular religion/faith. I also don't believe in creation.

Lots of people say this, out of curiosity I would like to ask?

1) What do you think will happen when you die?
2) If God didn't create, what is his purpose?
3) Does your God know absolutely everything?
4) Do you pray to your God for forgiveness or ask him for help?

For me you are not part of the problem, you I doubt are out there protesting abortion clinics, voting against gay rights, and fighting to steer your beliefs into social policy.

I bet we agree on way more than we disagree on.
