The job of elected officials is to represent the people in their constituency.
This is giving the majority of the people what they want. Deal with it.

Mikey, I know you think you understand the chemistry behind our daily lives (such as "fluoride" use, pharmaceuticals and even war chemicals) but you really don't. I'm not going to bother writing a long reply discrediting your views because it would be a waste of time. You are firmly set in your ways, but I respect your right to your opinion.

And what name is that?
That I don't like boot licking morons coming up with some phony lie so they can get rid of some industrial waste? That I don't like tyranny?
Read some of the literature if you think it is so great. You have plenty of fluoride in your tooth-paste.

3 times the citizens of Calgary have voted to keep fluoride in the water. So is it the will of the majority? I guess we'll never know since 10 people decided it for us.

This is not true. A routine dental exam is much more than cosmetic, especially with the x-rays, which are done every 5 years. Optometrists and Dentists (among others) play a key role in general health and the early diagnosis of many potentially serious health issues.

I am open minded. Enlighten me.
Are you going to tell me about sodium fluorosilicate?

Except that fluoride is only having a topical/surface effect .... its uptake into the tooth is a fraction of what it could be if it was there when the tooth was developing.
PS Don't lump me in with a chiropractor ... optometrist maybe ... chiropractor, definitely not.

There are no toxic chemicals, only toxic concentrations.
There's always a need to balance majority rights with minority rights, but in this case I'm with the majority.

Medical 'benefits' and detriments aside, this is the reason why i don't want this in my drinking water. People should have a choice about their medication. Putting it in the water supply is tyrannical.

This is part of my issue as well. 10 people who have read stuff on the internet should not be making this decision on a very important public health issue.
If Druh Farrel honestly thinks that bringing back the school fluoride treatments is going to be as effective, and cheaper, than water fluoridation she is dumber than I thought she was.

No, Kybosh will probably tell you how you can not lump compounds together simply because they both contain F.
The chemistry of fluoride and the fluorine in the structures of Prozac and Sarin are completely different. I will give you that fluoride is released from Sarin when it reacts but the fluoride is not the concern with this compound.

Majority requests something, government does it, oh the tyranny!
*Note that I don't think all issues should be decided by the majority, especially in cases the majority aren't knowledgeable enough to make the decision. Just amazed at the silliness.

Interesting you should say "majority".
Water fluoridation hearings are coming up in Lethbridge and the Alderman on the radio interview said the public has been "overwhelmingly opposed" to fluoridation in their day to day interactions.
Maybe.....it is because new studies and research have come out, and some people change their stance on it, even doctors and scientists.

"New science indicating fluoride’s dangers to the brain and other organs will be presented by prominent fluoride research scientists during back-to-back conferences of the International Society for Fluoride Research (ISFR) and the Fluoride Action Network (FAN) in Toronto August 7-11, 2008."
