Is This Racism?
Hey CP
*edited as per suggestions....
Do you feel that an all native basketball tournament should be considered as racist?
The reason i ask is becuz let's say I decide to put on a hockey tournament and label it as a "WHITE ONLY" tournament, I'd have every media group banging down my door looking for my head. People would be picketing hockey arenas. Marches and rallies would be organized calling for equal opportunity... etc - I think you get my point.
BUT - if a native group wants to put on a tournament that is native only that's fine.
Sounds like a bit of a double standard if you ask me.
Personally - I have absolutely no problem with an all native tournament - it doesn't bother/upset me in the least.
Thoughts???

Didn't you know that it's not racism if white people are the ones excluded?

As a business owner getting business from this tournament why should you care?
Not to be too harsh, but especially in this day and age do you really want to be posting something like this about one of your clients? Could cost you future work.

What I think would be racist is if they changed the ball in his hand to a bottle

I think I was pretty clear in my post that personally it doesn't bother me.
I don't see how it would cost me work - I'm just posing a question.

Someone reading this with nothing better to do does the following (could be a guest as well):
-googles 2011 Junior All-Native Tournament
-sees that it is in BC, and your location is Kelowna
-goes to the Facebook page
-they call the organizer and say one of the suppliers is making a fuss about it being an all-native tournament (even though you didn't say that)
-future business and reputation lost
Edit: I'm just playing devils advocate here, but it just seems that in this day when everything can be found online business' have to be very aware of how they present themselves at all times.

You say you have no problem with the tourney, yet you demonstrate otherwise with the bolded text.
If I were running a tourney in BC and found this thread, you can bet I would cancel the deal with you and find another company with which to do business.
Bigtime is right.

Definitely not racist.
The rules for a minority culture are different since they are the ones not in power. If they didn't organize events like this, many of them would probably never get the opportunity to be around people of the same culture and background.
The majority on the other hand is almost always in a situation where they form the majority. Our whole society, from the legal system to the recognized holidays is built to accomodate the majority.
So no a minority group getting together to celebrate their own culture every once and a while is most certainly not racist. Although I will give you that a better term than "all native" could have been used. It's really a throw back to the old "Coloured" sports leagues. Maybe get rid of the "all".

Maybe not a forumer, but what is to stop a guest that may happen to take offense to it?
Always plan for the worst.

For example, after 9 people told the OP that he should probably edit his post, you just KNEW that someone was going to quote it so that he essentially could not.
