Live news here is saying that there haven't been any deaths recorded so far.

The CNN report got it mixed up a bit, if it's the shelter I heard about. There was a shelter with 500? people in it, as the cyclone got close the Red Cross woman managing the shelter decided that it wasn't going to hold up, and moved everyone to another shelter. Luckily.

The places nailed by Cyclone Larry are the same places that took the brunt of this cyclone. Small consolation to those poor people, but it could be considered lucky that the worst part of the cyclone went through those rural areas instead of Townsville or Cairns.

Was Category 5 at landfall, and is down to Category 2 as of a couple of minutes ago as it goes inland and loses power.

Not much into yet on damage, as the winds are still too strong for news crews to get out on the ground.

Weird effect: sugar prices hit their highest price in over three decades because of the Queensland floods, then cyclone.

Yeah maybe but I found this blog.

Someone was asking about Robina + Surfers Paradise (where I live) and luckily we have not had anything, no flooding damage and no cyclone damage. The country is pretty screwed though, it's probably been mentioned but there has also been flooding in Melbourne/Victoria and today I woke up to hear there are Bush fires over in Perth (Western Australia). From what I understand the flood damage has been worse than the cyclone damage...

Yup...hit the beach a few times this weekend; my biggest worry is avoiding nipple rash on a surf board and sunburn. Pretty wicked spot so far...and I haven't seen any real flood damage to the city, although I'm sure it's there other than knocking out that city beach downtown, the city cats and the riverwalk.
