The province held a community workshop on 29 January in regards to the mythical SW ring road. The presentation can be found here:
http://www.transportation.alberta.ca/4043.htm
The presentation details all 5 routes/options... personally I think all 5 options suck, even the 37th street one.
I sincerely hope they go back to the negotiating table with the Tsuu Tina.

I like that Nenshi isn't hung up on getting a ring road built, rather he is looking for solutions to SW traffic issues. I think they need to put a real focus on trucking routes and figuring out a way to minimize their impact on traffic.

They have been. The Ring Road is expected to carry a large amount of truck traffic that would otherwise be on City streets. Roads in the City have been built on the assumption that trucks would use the Ring Road eventually to get around.
Or do you want to be the one that tells the truck driver they're no longer allowed to use Highway 8 and Glenmore Trail to get to the SE Industrial Parks?

37th is the only option. They already tried with the Tsu Tina, its a lost cause. Unless you can deal with 1 person who can make a decision trying to negotiate with someone who has no power is an exercise in futility.

As Rick Bell stated, there is an option 6 - and that is to the West of the reserve along 22 and 22X. (so what if it's 74km as opposed to 30 something)
Might as well just build that now, surround the Tsu Tina and be ready for the growth of the City for the next 100 years.

Aside from the tunnel option, those options are pretty gross. The last option isn't as bad but still a bad alternative.
Tsuu Tina and the province need to see eye to eye.

Well can't complain about the city being shortsided if they foresight and prepare THAT far ahead.

The Province has spent 40 years trying to negotiate with the reserve over this land. It's been long enough IMO. Get the land for the 37th street option and get on with building it.
None of the options satisfy the concerns of the deep SW, but if they are angry about a lack of roads to their neighborhoods, perhaps they should've considered that when they bought their house?

Option 8: There already is a ring road in place, only no one uses it.
Drive on Tsuu Tina's dirt roads. Start at the gas station off 37th and Anderson and it will bring you to the Screamin' Weasel casino in no time and vice versa. Total cost: $8 for a car wash.

The presentation clearly outlines that Route 4 is the best and cheapest option. Time to start moving on it.

What is the screaming weasel casino? is that the Grey Eagle?
Is this option open in the Winter or only in the summer and does it show up on a Garmin?

About a week ago I went vice versa, from the screamin eagle to the bottle depot/gas station to head out to braeside. Sure enough right at the exit near the gas station they had a check stop. I was told I have been put in a list as being warned of trespassing. He never turned me around this time because i was almost out of gas and told him I needed fuel.

If they let me go 160km/h on that option, then it might be viable.

It's not an option. Native roads are not public roads, I've known people who've got ticketed for this before.

Do they get you to stand on a line, turn on YMCA and see if you know the actions? A field-whitey test?

Only if the indians catch you - Just drive around the check stop. It's like a new-age game of cowboys and indians.

The ring road is hardly on there land at all. The fact that its past the year 2000 and its this hard to figure these things out is assinine.
Honestly why couldnt we annex some land and trade it to them for the land where the road is needed. It wouldnt be hard to push back both the citys boarders and the Native Reserves boarders 1 acre west.

Yeah, it's not really "Option 8: There already is a ring road in place, only no one uses it" at that point.

They had a generous land swap, and were to be given enough money to set the band up for the next 100 years or more (assuming they invested it wisely). Their chief, 2 days before the vote, endorsed it. For some reason, some got nervous because of technicalities, IIRC basically that they didn't trust that the land they'd were to get in the swap was going to actually be the land they got, because the province couldn't provide them with the land titles on the spot.

You're right, it's more like Option 1!
It could become a show on TV, like COPS, except the Indians chase the white people, rather than the other way around.
