High school needs a required financial management 101 course. The world has gotten 100x more complex financially and many people are equipped to even tread water in the new age. We need to get these kids a base line understanding of how to make, keep and grow money nowadays...

It looks like the U.S. ambassador to Egypt has secretly met with Muslim Brotherhood leader Issam El-Erian at the American embassy in Cairo.

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=258405

"Last week, a senior Egyptian diplomat stated the Egyptian government suspects elements of the current uprising there, particularly political aspects, are being coordinated with the U.S. State Department and Obama administration.
The senior Egyptian diplomat told WND the Mubarak regime suspects the U.S. has been aiding protest planning by Mohamed ElBaradei, who is seen as one of the main opposition leaders in Cairo.

ElBaradei, former International Atomic Energy Agency chief, has reinvented himself as a campaigner for "reform" in Egypt. He is a candidate for this year's scheduled presidential elections.
ElBaradei arrived in Cairo just after last week's protests began and is reportedly being confined to his home by Egyptian security forces.
He is seen as an ally of the Muslim Brotherhood."

America will make sure that a U.S. friendly leader will take power in Egypt. We'll see if the Egytpian people actually gain anything by this.

Considering El Baradei ran afoul of the US regarding Iran's nuclear program during his time with the IAEA, thats surprising.

If everyone grows money then no one will spend it, there will be no balance.

Not good. Maybe reporters should start getting out of there.

OT, the no WW I/WW II instruction is mind-boggling. Only the 2 most important events of the 20th century, not to mention the only 2 interesting bits of Canada's otherwise boring history. Luckily for Maks the Impaler, I have a large library of military history, so he'll have to learn it at home, and I'll just phone him in sick when his classmates are studying aboriginal relations or whatever in SS. I reckon I'll start him off with AJP Taylor's classic The Struggle for Mastery in Europe 1848-1918 at age 4. That should lay the necessary groundwork...
Sorry, back to scheduled programming...

They want the media to leave so they can crackdown on the demonstrators.

I guess it depends on how deep you want to get Jack L Granenstein wrote an excellent entire history of the Canadian Armed Forces, I would recommend getting into that.

There are also some outstanding map books on Canadian Actions in WW1 and 2, they work really well in concert with whatever books that your reading.

I'm a fairly big buff on WW2, I just picked up a history of the Canadian Navy in the Atlantic in WW2.

For a on the ground feel of the Italian Campaign, Farley Mowats "And no Birds sang" Captured the war experience, that book works well with "My fathers son" which were the letters back and forth between Mowat and his family.

Deadlock in Korea takes a really good look at Canada's role in the Korean conflict, which is very important.

How I learned to Love the bomb, is a book about Canada's Nuclear Weapons program during the Cold War.

I also think its important to read major biographies on the major leaders in the war. Stalin, Hitler, Churchill, FDR can help you get into. there was another book about the Allied Military Command structure between countries that laid out how the allies didn't really get along all that well. I can get you the name of the book tonight if you want it.

"I am fed up. After 62 years in public service, I have had enough. I want to go," Mubarak said in a 20-minute interview with ABC's Christiane Amanpour Thursday at the presidential palace in Cairo.
In a phone conversation with U.S. President Barack Obama earlier this week, Mubarak said, "I told Obama, 'You don’t understand the Egyptian culture and what would happen if I step down now?'”

You know what, after all this, i'm kind of inclined to agree with him. I bet he will be out of office by weeks end, but then what? He made it worse by prolonging it and trying to hang onto power. Now things are a real mess. Hard to turn around and go back to work after this. Would have been easier last Friday. The country is going to spin out of control.

And nice to see that he's making time to speak with ABC instead of speaking to, ya know, the people of Egypt...

He said the same crap 25 years ago. When he took over after Sadat's assassination he claimed it would be for 1 term, hes now on "term" 6. If anything he wants to stay so he can rig the election for his buddies and clean out the government coffers.

I really do agree with this.

He's bought himself time, I'm betting his next move will be a purge of the army to remove any disloyal officers.

From what I understand his son is in the political mix, so he'll somehow be involved in the next election.

I'm willing to bet that any protests during election time get harshly dealt with.

Yes but at what cost? If they kidnap or kill reporters that's not going to help get the message out either.

Reporters can exercise caution, and not pull an Anderson Cooper, for one.

Reporters being kidnapped will most certainly get the message out, although it's not the best way to do it. It's already raising American rhetoric and drawing further condemnation around the world and receiving attention.

Running away when the going gets tough isn't the way to do things.

No kidding. It's times like these that "real journalists" rise to the occasion. It's arguably the ultimate scenario for them to use their skills for the betterment of everyone.

Is Christiane Amanpour on the scene? That woman could easily disperse a mob with an icy glare.

Not sure why so many keep picking on him for what happened. He wasn't the only journalist assaulted by those thugs, and at the time he was out walking around and that happened, there had been NO violence of any sort yet. There was no reason to be fearful. I am no AC fanboy whatsoever, but I completely fail to see what he did wrong and more importantly think what he and so many of his colleagues were trying to do was and is extremely imoprtant.

The medium is the message.

Killing reporters is part of the message, demonstrating what the dictator really fears, sunlight on the truth.
