Well this megacity is by name only. it's not like they are building it from scratch in the middle of somewhere. Still it can't be like Beijing where rush hours are days at a time, can it??

Major traffic will likely come from city to city, i.e. living in one city and working in another. This is the traffic that jams up highways, like people who live in DeWinton that commute into Calgary, or down here where there are people who live in Sacramento and then work in San Jose.

If there was ever a good place for a bunch of sweet maglev trains, this could be the spot.

Forget SimCity to plan this baby, dust off your copies of Transportation Tycoon!

I actually did that last week, so addictive.

Service subsidy offered:

First Passenger service from Shenzhen to Guangzhou will attract a year's subsidy from the local authority!

They already have Maglev in Shanghai.

What's funny is that the Chinese got all these foreign companies to bid for contracts but forced them to work with local factories to actually produce the trains. After a few years, they "digested" the knowledge and ended the contracts LOL.

Now they aquired all the technology and can build all the trains without paying a cent haha. Good ol' China. The best at copying.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-speed_rail_in_China

The networks are huge already.

I was aware of the maglev in Shanghai, runs from the airport right? I was thinking this could be a case to have a more widespread use of the technology.

China ruled maglev out as an option for various reasons. Ze Germans wouldn't share the technology (so China could copy it LOL) and conventional rail was fast enough. They have set many records for conventional rail speeds. It's only 3/4 fast as Maglev but it's cheaper.

This is what first came to my mind. From a military stand point, a country could take out 50million people so fast... Its a sad thought, but it could happen.

I wish people would stop knocking this idea so much, the only drawback I see is that most of the 42 million will be, Chinese.
