What do guys want (aside from the obvious)? I am thinking cologne for my man- he likes Polo Black. Any other favourite colognes? Or ideas that are NOT NSFW?

Probably just eat a bunch of tacos, crawl on top of the GF for 8 or 9 sad excuses for pumps, then pass out.
Alright fine... 3 or 4 ..

Why do women insist on making so much of this arbitrary day to help the retail industry? I want "nothing" for this day. If you want to celebrate in a historically-appropriate fashion, kill a Hugenot, better yet, two... Otherwise, if there must be a gift - kinky sex - it's free, and much more enjoyable than perfume...

First thing you should do is convince him to stop wearing perfume because it makes him smell like a Persian carpet salesman.
Second, buy him something he'll actually use, like an XBox or something.

I generally prefer if women don't buy me anything aesthetic related. I know my own taste is better than their own views regarding me. Nothing worse than getting a crappy shirt, tie etc... and then HAVING to wear it out of obligation, even though you know you look like a silly fool. Getting a perfume or cologne from a girlfriend must be 11x worse. It's like imposed standards, you want your boyfriend to smell like that, but he might think he smell's like a hooker's cooch. Putting on your cologne might be an exercise in masochism for him.
Get him a goddam XBOX.

You're absolutely right. But we are covered when it comes to gaming devices and electronics. Maybe I should just buy him a giant mirror and have it mounted on the ceiling of our bedroom?

Or take it a step further and cover your entire bedroom in mirrors, Wilt Chamberlain style.

A little early for this no? I remember some dude from last year who posted about Valentines day a month before it even happened, and then got all offended when when people started making fun of him for taking it so seriously.Valentines day is one of those holidays that shouldn't cross your mind till the afternoon of the 14th!
I hate how they pile these holidays on one after another, so your credit card is still cooling off from the last holiday before you're obligated to spend more on another one to "prove your love". The quicker it becomes a non-holiday the better.
Make her dinner, do the dishes, low-profile in-house action.....that's the way to go. Jewelry can wait for Flag Day.

How about a gift certificate to somewhere? Not very thoughtful but I rather have that than get something expensive I don't want. Tickets to a Flames game or concert? Xbox/PS3/games?
I got a small gift from my GF last year - Magazine subscription to GQ, Maxim and Hockeynews. I really liked that gift. Makes for great pooping material
