Apart from the past two seasons, it has given me a laugh or two.
No, people hate it because it's tired, cliche, sitcom garbage. It really represents everything wrong with primetime network programming.

Does anyone remember a show on showcase years ago called 'Foreign Objects'? I've looked for it from time to time but no luck. It was strange, but had some great parts.

For shows to watch with your wife, I would encourage you to try Friday Night Lights and Big Love. The first couple seasons of E.R. remain a favourite for us. You could also try Lost.

If your wife is able to stomach Dexter, she may also like more 'macho' fare such as The Shield, Breaking Bad, and Sons of Anarchy, all of which are great shows that tend towards the grisly.

thanx folks.

I went to get The Wire after seeing the high response for this show (hadn't even heard of it prior to opening this thread). Unfortunately, blockbuster was out.

Instead went with what was available, which was the first season of sopranos (which i've seen before). Going ok so far, but damn the first few episodes are slow and sort of average. my memory of the show (watched it 10 years ago) was much higher quality, but i think it takes sometime to get better. Hoping the wife will remain patient with it.

It might also be that it's not as story/plot driven as dexter. We're still in withdrawl looking forward to the 5th season to come out on dvd.

If you have HBO with Shaw, you can watch it "On Demand" (Dexter)

My wife and I watch:

True Blood - If you wife like Vampire Diaries she might like this one.
Spartacus
Sons of Anarchy - My wife didn't think she would like the show but she loves it. You really need to start from the beginning though.
Rizzoli and Ilses - kinda cheezy, but I like cop shows
Justified
Southland

I've never seen another show on TV with the same premise, so I would have to disagree with that assessment.

I sure have a long list of shows that I can start watching thanks to you all. I'm 2 episodes away from the end of season 1 of Heroes. I'm a little peeved knowing that it was cancelled this past year and that I probably won't ever see a nice series wrap up because of that. However, I can't stop watching now.

Don't worry, you'll give up on it long before it ends. I can't think of any other show that went from "I can't wait for the next episode" to "I can't believe this crap is still on the air" so quickly.

Ouch, really? The first season has pulled me in, very intriguing.

I guess that explains why it was cancelled.

Yeah I bought the first season on DVD, liked it, then started watching the subsequent season on TV and it just started to collapse. A one season wonder.

No. Good shows but definitely not best tv ever. Especially not True Blood.

I don't know how a woman would feel about 'The Wire' though, I never liked it. Definitely a 'guy show.'
I think being able to love The Wire is more about being reasonably intelligent instead of being a certain gender. The storytelling is so dense and that it doesn't dumb anything down to a common denominator means you can't turn your brain off to watch it unlike Two and a Half Men.
