Technically isn't a graphic novel a more accurate description though? Comics usually implies a short, 20 page magazine type book. A graphic novel can go hundreds of pages and can actually be the size of a small book.

Fair enough - I always thought they were interchangeable and a way for grown ups to feel less goofy about buying comic books...

It's like the difference between a novelette, a novella, and a novel. That being said, comic books are still way better than graphic novels. Especially ones with glossy pages. Man, I love glossy paged comic books.

Wasn't Firefly/Serenity already about cowboys and aliens?

When I saw the trailer this, I was thinking it looked awesome as well - especially with two of my fav action stars (Craig and Ford). Seems like a great popcorn flick.
I suppose the chance is there to be extremely disappointed since my expectations are high. Always better to have low expectations and be impressed (Men In Black was this way for me - looked like the worst movie ever when I saw the trailer and loved it when I saw it) than to have high expectations and not have them met (Star Wars Episode I anyone).

EDIT: And as cool as this looks, I'm thinking Battle Los Angeles is going to be the alien movie of the year.

Yes. Like Transformers, which was my point. And MIBs wasn't exactly an art film either.

Actually that was supposed to have more parallels with the American civil war, so a bit before cowboys.
I'm jazzed for this movie, but in that 'dumb movie' sort of way. I will be going in expecting problems and a certain level of suck. But I think I will have a lot of fun with it and therefore am looking forward to it.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember any "aliens" in the TV series or the movie. There were people who were exposed to experiments, but no aliens per se.

Thank you. I was one of the few people who thought MIB was crap. Everyone else I went with talked to thought it was such an imaginative movie...
I guess I was expecting something more serious, with real parallels to the actual stories of 'Men In Black', X Files style.
Now there was a show that could often find the perfect line between silly and serious. Between suspense and crazy fun.
An I've already posted my feelings on the new Transformers franchise... :/

What I am trying to say is Firefly was like a Western set in space. I remember one episode where they literally rustled catte.
Westworld was another movie mixing Western and sci-fi tropes. Also, Will Smith's Wild Wild West.

Right...and there have been just a couple of cop movies too. What's your point?

No way this flic sucks, Ron Howard and Steven Spielburg would bury this film before release if it wasn't up to their expectations. The star power alone will make it one of this summer blockbusters.

I just find it interesting that Westerns and Sci-Fi is being mixed so much.

They better throw in an Olivia Wilde nude scene or two just to be sure.
