Default How to find my External IP address

Hey guys, sort of a stupid question, but how do I find my external IP address? I went to the obvious ip.nf site, and it gave me an IP address, but apparently thats not my 'external' IP address. So just curious how I can find it out, I'm on a router.

Reason I need it is because I'm currently taking a computer course at MRC, and they require my external IP address to log into the compiler from home.

Thats the exact same type of site as the one I listed in my original post, ip.nf.

Apparently its not an external IP address, according to what the tech guys told me.

No, its giving me a 198.166.xx.xx address.

I had thought that was sufficient, but apparently its still not working, so thought I may have been doing something wrong.

I apologize if I'm not really making sense, not too knowledgeable about this stuff.

Are you at home or work? 192.168 is public space IP, your number is only unique to you behind your router.

If you go to speedtest.net does it show your IP there?

Looks like 198.166.x.x ip's are all Canadian, this should be your external ip.

I bet the tech looked at the address and thought it was a 192.168.x.x address and replied without even trying it.

That is the only explanation for someone not accepting an address that is obviously external.

Alright guys, thank you so much for your help.

I sent another email explaining the situation, hopefully the issue will be solved.
Initially, I did give him what I incorrectly thought was my IP address, of the 192.168.xx variety, but then resent the correct one with 198.166.xx. The problem still persisted though, so I thought it was a mistake on my end, especially getting all confused about external, and what the difference was.

Thanks again.

192.168.xx.x IPs are internal. With how close a 192.166.xx.x IP sounded, the tech probably didn't really use his brain and think about it.

To get my IP, I use this site:
