Drinking at home = driver's license suspension
This is getting crazy, you can lose your driver's (auto) license for boating and even lose it for floating on an air mattress while impaired. Now their taking driver's licenses for drinking at home.
Quote:
When retired elementary school teacher Barb Copp broke her arm last March during an impromptu wake at her home after the sudden death of her best friend, she never dreamed it would result in the suspension of her driver’s licence.

I can't wait to hear someone say this is a cash cow for doctors because they get paid $36 to turn someone in!

that non motorized boating one is ridiculous, I can understand the alcohol dependence but should be a case by case basis.
One more reason for me to show my fiancee we don't want to move back to her home province!

drinking and boating and drinking and driving are the same, I have no problem with them taking your license away for that. The rest is bunk.

People should lose their license for drinking and boating.

A couple of points.
1) Clearly, removing someone's licence because they had blood tested confirming they were drunk at some point while not driving is a thought crime and not an actual crime. I have a huge problem with this.
2) When the government does everything don't be surprised to see certain synergies between different departments. Big government enabled this abuse.
Third point:
3) Clearly there is a temperance slant among government types. If you get drunk pretty much in any situation you can hypothetically get plowed by the fat legislative dong of government. For example getting drunk in your own house can have legal reprecussions if you happen to have your car keys in your pocket and car accessable, technically your in 'care and control' of your vehicle while intoxicated.

Both. And one testicle per conviction. If you drink, don't drive, it is a really simple concept that saves a lot of lives.
I have never understood peoples inability to call a cab, or not put themself in a position where they need to drive!
If you go boating with your buddies you know that someone has to drive home, so why are you even drinking on the boat in the first place?

I can understand taking your license for operating a motorized boat, but an inflatable dingy?

Their boating license or their drivers license? Or are they the same thing? I know Kelowna is cracking down on this, but I'm not sure if there is a distinction between the two if you drink and boat.
I knew a guy that almost got an impaired for drinking and cycling (he was a courier) but the cop didn't know how to write it up. I also sled a lot, and I wouldn't mind seeing a little more policing in the backcountry.

So if I get drunk while boating and lose my boating license, my drivers license goes down with that? That's whack.

If I'm not mistaken... the article says that her blood tests revealed liver enzyme damage that indicates a history of alcohol dependence, and that doctors are legally obligated to report those findings to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.
It's not like she just got drunk one night and everyone wigged out on her. It wasn't a blood/alcohol test they went off of, it was a liver test. It's not about being drunk that night, it's about her liver showing damage caused by a history of alcohol abuse.
The law is the law. I see no issue here.

She looks like she'd be a bigger menace on the road than Lucille Bluth and probably as likely to be sober.

So the woman goes home every night and puts back a couple of vodka on the rocks and never, ever has been convicted of driving after drinking. How is that the business of the government? How does that equate to losing her license? That's total BS, AFAIC.

Boating yes. Air matress, no. How does that equate to a license to drive?
Drinking & Driving is one of those things that RGMG, but claiming someone who is alchohol dependant is vastly different that actually drinking and driving.

You can lose it for being drunk and driving a ride on lawnmower, or even a bicycle.
Please don't drink and operate a vehicle. Regardless of how the licensing of the vehicle is done.
